Cooling mats

Does anyone have cooling mats for their cats? Do your cats use them? Would you recommend your mat? Asking for a hot fluffy friend.😊

I’ve debated one for our long haired dcat but she is such a fussy contrary little shit, I just know she wouldn’t use it! She never used the heated mat I bought her last winter or any of the beds I bought her🤣

I’ve tried a fan which doesn’t like and frozen water bottle which she will move away from🤦‍♀️ I give up really. She’s on her own.

Thankfully it’s cooling now and we’ve had some rain.

My mum has one for her fat cat. He adores it, but he is very dog like in his mannerisms. Mine all love the heat. In fact my Sphynx is in his element, loving the heat!

Got mine some - they hate them!! They love little fans though, and cold wood floors, sleeping in sinks etc. Its that or sun bathing until they're almost toasted 😂

ImAvingOops · 19/07/2022 19:44

Mine hates it. I like it though Smile

ChocolateChocolateEverywhere · 19/07/2022 19:45

We tried them and the two DPrincesses won't go near. They just have to cope as they won't accept any of the help offered. Remarkably like DC now I come to think of it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/07/2022 22:21

Ours didn’t like hers either.

Bdragon · 20/07/2022 07:44

Mine currently has 2 cooling mats on offer and is ignoring both of them to lie right next to them. She seems happier lying on the floor. Or finding the one square of intense sunshine in the house that I haven't managed to block out, and lying there, even though I'm in 40 degree London.

Thankfully the trick of pretending I'm drinking a glass of water has been working, as she is very keen to drink from 'my' glass.

Girl cat loves them. Boy cat doesn't understand them.

If someone could just design a cooling mat in the shape of a freshly ironed shirt or skirt, I have no doubt my cats would be draped all over them.
But as it is, any purpose bought item chosen with the cats’ comfort in mind has been shunned at best.

ItsSnowJokes · 20/07/2022 08:33

My cat sleeps next to them. FFS.

I dont mind I have used them myself and they are fab. We even tried putting them in a cardboard box as she is obsessed with boxes but that didn't work either.

Iamacatslave · 20/07/2022 09:32

My cat hates his cooling mat. I’ve been using it and loving it!

Ratonastick · 20/07/2022 10:28

I ought three in a panic last week. I sprinkled catnip on them and carefully placed in her favourite spots. She’s systematically ignored all of them and slept on the floor with her head jammed up against a cupboard for two days. I’m amazed that she isn’t limping around with a frozen shoulder.

Anyway, the temperature is back down and madam is perfectly fine. So I’ll put the mats with the cat bed, the radiator hammock, the drinking fountain and all the other expensive paraphernalia that Princess Prissy Paws thinks are beneath her.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/07/2022 10:29

My girls happily used them in the cattery, so I bought them one. Did they touch it? No, of course not. Mine like the laminate floor. Considering they are both flat faced Persians they've coped much better than I have with the heat.

The cattery they are going tomorrow messaged to say that they have got extra ice packs and Cool mats in for them. No doubt the girls will be fully appreciative of this. While complaining that I didn't get them anything. 😂😂

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/07/2022 11:30

Cat accessories ought to be under the brand name “I saw you coming” because they don’t use any of it. Cattery rules are different, mine used wood chip litter at the cattery. Insisted on ultra clumping at home or he’d wee elsewhere but no accidents at the cattery.

Hotspottreacle · 20/07/2022 11:54

Thanks everyone, pretty much confirmed my suspicions. Must not waste anymore money on cat stuff for dcat to ignore!

Ain't that the truth. My cattery also use wood chip. Though to be fair one never offered anything other than ultra clumping at home.

Yarnasaurus · 20/07/2022 11:59

If you want your cat to use it you need to buy one just for yourself and instruct the cats not to use it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/07/2022 12:24

This is true! “It’s not for cats, beggar off this is my mouse on a string”

Paprikapommes · 20/07/2022 12:28

I got one a few years ago and roll it out every summer. He used it for the first time yesterday for a few hours. It took the hottest day in UK history for him to cave, I also had to PA put it on his favourite spot in the whole house. He's now back to ignoring it.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 20/07/2022 12:34

My boy doesn’t want to know. I put treats on the mat to get his attention and he walked on, picked them up and walked off again. So I’m using it instead.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/07/2022 12:36

@Yarnasaurus true. I bought the cats a heat mat, which they used a bit. But they love MY heated throw!

poppetandmog · 20/07/2022 12:37

Bought one last week for my 2 ragdolls. They looked at me like I was an idiot then lay beside it.

TiaraBoo · 20/07/2022 19:18

Mine sat on the cooling mat. Once! Although it’s not hers, it’s the dogs. She now like to sit in the laundry basket on the clean laundry or if there’s a rogue clothing item or towel lying around - blink and there’s a cat on it!
