Should I keep my cat inside in this heatwave?

Or do I let him wander around outside and sleep under the trees as he normally would?

We tried to keep ours in today but she yowled and cried so much to be let out that I started to fear the stress of that was worse for her than the heatwave! So she's gone out and is no doubt resting in a shady spot somewhere.

I've let mine do what she wants. She is being very sensible and finding the coolest bits of the house to sleep in during that day and only going out early or evening.

Not drinking any bloody water though!

I wiped mine down from head to toe with a wet tea towel (and she loved me doing it) and she spent ages afterwards licking her fur, so I knew she was getting a bit of water down her that way. Worth trying?

@Youaremysunshine14 I'll give it a try. She is astoundingly uncooperative though so not sure how she'll react to a wet teatowel. She usually looks at you with complete disdain and legs it off if you accidentally splash a drop of water on her!

My two seem to be loving the dirt in the garden lately and the boy has his spots. He didn't come in until almost noon, while his sister sunbathed in the conservatory!

I had considered getting a cool mat for them but could just see no one using it and having to add it to the Cat Drawer of all the other toys and tools that they've ignored over the years.

Tonight when it cools down I imagine they will be running in and out the back door and enjoying the cool. I do worry they havent been drinking enough water, but they seem to be eating all their wet food and dont seem to really want kibble.
