Nursing Kitten

How long would a mother cat nurse a kitten for.
I took a pregnant stray in earlier this year, she gave birth to 2 kittens, unfortunately 1 died.
The remaining kitten is eating kitten food and is keen on solid food in general , but she is still feeding off the mother cat, the kitten is coming up to 15 weeks now.
I don't suppose its doing any harm, just curious as it doesn't seem normal to me ( although I have not had a kitten in about 20 years, so don't know what would be normal would be)

It's not unusual for this to happen when the kitten and mother still live together. The only thing I can think of, is the kitten maybe lacking nutrition?

Give your vet a call and see what they say.

Sweet kitty.

I think it’s habit, try separating them for a week so mums milk dries up. Poor kitten taking all the mums nutrients, hope your giving mummy cat extra

Just leave them - they will naturally wean.

Only intervene if for some reason there is a health issue with mum or kitten and only on vet’s advice.

Mum is getting plenty of food and treats.
Might add that she's only doing this every so often, once a day (ish), although today she seems to be at her mum more than normal.
I think it's just a habit and comfort thing. I'm just surprised the mum has tolerated it for so long and there is any milk left.

Both kitten and mum did have a health checks when they had jabs, but I'll keep my eye on them.
