Tongue biopsy on cat

Hi, I’ve posted before about my 10 year old cat who over the last 2 months has had symptoms of cat flu (had it as a kitten and now a house cat) with sneezing, watery eyes and stiff joints. He’s had an ulcer under his tongue and is pulling our his fur in chunks.

He’s been on a steroid injection (during which he seemed to get worse) and antibiotics.

The vet saw him again last night and the ulcer under his tongue is looking much better so probably had an infection, but he’s now got red raised patches on top of his tongue.

We don’t know if it’s a granuloma or a tumour so the vet is recommending a biopsy. I’m just worried that a GA and having a piece of his tongue cut out is going to make a poorly cat worse.

Has anyone had any experience of their cat having this done, recovery etc? Anything else I should be asking them to investigate/try with him?

Thanks!
