Cat Litter Shortage (wood based)

21 replies

Mizydoscape · 10/07/2022 15:31

There appears to be a shortage of wood based cat litter in my area (South Devon) has anyone else noticed this and has any idea what the supply chain issues are?

I reckon I can substitute with horse wood pellets assuming they're the same thing in different packaging?

I have it on subscribe and save with Amazon and the last few months it has been delayed due to supply issues. Does eventually come but we have had to use other stuff to tide us over.

I've found it alot more hit and miss if it's in stock, and prices have gone up, managed to get few bags in the range for £6.99 for 30l

Same. It's been like this for months.

We've been really struggling - North West.

Utter nightmare!

Yanbu.

our neighbours use coir (coconut fibre) from the compost section in the garden centre).
they have a covered litter box in the garden though.

I second the Range. Managed to get 4 bags delivered after all the pets at home in my city were out of stock and the delivery charge was pretty modest!

MsButterfly · 21/08/2022 12:17

The guy at Pets At Home told me there was a fire in a warehouse storing it hence the supply chain issues.

thecatneuterer · 21/08/2022 13:22

Yep, same here in London, it's been a problem for months. I've learned when my local Pets at Home gets deliveries (2pm Fridays😁) and I hang around there at that time waiting to pounce. By midday Saturday there is none left.

I did once try, when desperate, the recycled paper litter. Good lord that is dreadful! It turns to a soggy, ammonia reeking mess in a matter of hours.

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/08/2022 13:53

I’ve managed to get my girl onto Sainsburys cheapo stuff. It’s not for everyone but I do a total litter change every day so it doesn’t smell.

It took 2 days for brain cell one to talk to brain cell two and decide the new litter was not dangerous to health.

kwaziseyepatch · 21/08/2022 14:19

I've noticed this too and there's no other acceptable substitute is there!?

Waitrose often have it but I'm buying the big bags from pets at home now

ChatterMonkey · 21/08/2022 16:26

Ive been getting mine from the cats protection adoption centre. The one near us use it, and also have it for sale, so we just pop along and buy a few bags at a time.

@Mizydoscape
Oh dear I didn’t know about this
I bought a 5kg sack in home bargains ages ago but twocat hasn’t used tray for months due to nice weather…lm due a home bargains shop will check it out and let you know if they have any stock as you may have one locally
assuming you’re talking about the wood pellet ones ? I like them

MissRainbowBrite · 24/08/2022 20:55

I use the Pets at Home stuff, £7.99 for a big bag, for our guineas and our local P@H was out of stock everytime I went in. In the end I asked when the delivery was, ours is every Friday and it's usually all gone by the Sunday.

I managed to get the last giant bag from P@H last time I was there luckily but there still seems to be supply issues, there used to be stacks of the stuff.

That would be useful thanks as I wouldn't usually make a trip out Home Bargains way unless I was going there specifically for something!

@Mizydoscape
on the case !

TwoMonthsOff · 25/08/2022 18:38

@Mizydoscape
just did a Home Bargains shop ! They have small 5 litre bags and they are only £1.49 they had quite a few bags, don’t think it works out much different the bag I got ages ago is 15 litre and I think was about £4.00 😺

@Mizydoscape
you’re welcome, I also found some Capsicana fajita kits for £1.49 that are £3.70 in Waitrose, so you did me a favour - I love Home Bargains we have a lovely new huge one here (Poole)
