Garden wall shelves or step

Does anyone have anything like this in their back garden to help Dcat get over fences/walls?

Dcat comes and goes as he pleases, and is miserable if he can't. Also loves visiting the neighbors. He's recently had some leg pain and Vets can't find anything but think our high brick garden walls and landing on flagstones might be the cause.

I've found one perch specifically for cats, but it's £60 a shelf and doesn't look that great. Wondering if I can DIY.

There are ones on eBay, Etsy and Amazon cheaper. You could just do brackets (or wooden supporting blocks) and cut tantalised timer to make your own. Is it your fence to be able to attach things to though? You don’t want to end up on a thread about ‘neighbour attaching shelves to my fence’! Wink

Can you make your own garden more enticing for him? I say this as a cat owner of 40+ years but on occasions my neighbours have made it very clear they don't welcome our cats shitting being in their gardens. I would be looking to heighten existing fences/ boundaries and plant shrubs for cover/catmint/grasses for entertainment to keep him close.

Our garden is currently paved, and pretty small. So knowing him he's going to escape regardless, as he goes absolutely bat shit when he hears people in their gardens and can't get over to them. The garden is on a long list of things to sort out and re-green, sadly not something we can do ourselves as there's likely a lot of concrete and debris to be removed.

But regardless our neighbors luckily like his company not that they get a choice and I think cat prison fencing would be more intrusive for them.

Bog standard shelf is a good idea, thanks. We do have some bolts from the previous owner in the wall. Somight try to reuse them.
