Tips on getting tablets into cat?

Our gorgeous boy was sadly diagnosed with cancer 2 weeks ago. He’s not doing too badly but starting to struggle more with eating. As such it’s been very hard to get his medication into him. He’s on half a table of steroids and pain relief twice a day.

Initially we were crushing them up into his food or a licky lix bit now he’s not so keen on that. Tried to put it directly in his mouth but he wasn’t keen and I just got scratched.

Sadly I think we may have to say goodbye soon but I desperately want to try and at least relieve his pain in the meantime. Anyone been through similar and got any ideas or tips?

Thank you all for the support and suggestions. We’ve made the tough decision to say goodbye today. He’s booked in at 4.30pm.

He’s really been struggling to eat and just sitting by his food bowl for hours so clearly wants to. Last night he did eat quite a bit but this morning there was lots of bloody dribble around his food area. He is looking so uncomfortable so we know it’s the right thing to do but as I’m sure you all know it doesn’t make it any easier.

Big hugs for later. It's a brave decision but sounds like the right time xx

Lacedwithgrace · 28/06/2022 09:14

I'm so sorry you've had to make this decision but it's the right one. Will be thinking of you both this afternoon. Do you have someone to go with you?

HerRoyalHappiness · 28/06/2022 09:57

You're doing what's best for him, huge hugs. It isn't an easy decision to make.

Such a painful heartbreaking decision but the right one for him.

Yes my husband and our neighbour will be coming. Our cat lives between us both and he wants to be there too 💔

Right decision, but that doesn't make it easy. All the best for 4.30pm. 🌻

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 28/06/2022 17:31

Hope you and your husband are ok OP x

Roominmyhouse · 28/06/2022 17:50

Thanks for the love everyone, can’t stop crying.

It was so quick and I’m glad he’s not in pain anymore but I’m going to really miss him. I felt so bad leaving him behind. He just looked like he was sleeping 😢

Oh @Roominmyhouse Thanks

Our elderly boy has just been diagnosed with lymphoma. I hope that when the time comes we are able to be as courageous, as humane and as loving as you have been. The most important part of loving your pet is knowing when the right time is. You could not have done more. xxxxxx

Dontsayyouloveme · 28/06/2022 19:37

Bung it in amongst some tinned tuna and hand feed it !

Dontsayyouloveme · 28/06/2022 19:39

He knew he was loved and he wouldn't be struggling anymore. You did the very best thing for him. The next few days will be difficult, but it will get easier. x

Everything is making us cry tonight. Seeing our other cat, there just being one cat bowl out now, finding a tuft of ginger fur on the spare bed. But we are looking through old pictures and trying to remember the good times before he got poorly ❤️

Aw bless you. It must be so difficult. Why don't you share some pictures and memories with us? I'd love to hear about his life. I'm sure he was happy and knew he was loved.

Roominmyhouse · 28/06/2022 20:59

@HerRoyalHappiness as outing as they might be always happy to share cat pics! He was a beautiful boy, love dreamies, cat nip, melon and belly rubs! ❤️

Awww what a handsome boy! Absolutely beautiful. He looks like he had such a kind soul.

My cats love melon too on a hot day. My ginger boy eats everything though. He once stole a piece of birthday cake out of DDs hands!

Roominmyhouse · 28/06/2022 21:12

He was such a gentle cat, never scratched or bit anyone. He was part ragdoll so you could pick him up and cuddle him all you liked! When he was younger he loved to chase the laser pen too, and he made funny like chirps when he was excited.

I don’t think he was ever cheeky enough to steal birthday cake though, that’s brilliant!

HerRoyalHappiness · 28/06/2022 21:28

Aw he sounds lovely. I wish mine would let me cuddle them all day! The chirps they make are brilliant aren't they.
