Cat biting

Hi all, I’m hoping someone can offer some advice. I’m fed up of my cat biting me unprovoked. We’ve had her for 18 months, adopted at 2 years old. She play bites feet, annoying but understandable and avoidable so I’m not concerned about that. The biting that I hate is when I’m simply doing something near her that she doesn’t like. The two main offences are when I’m hanging the washing or walking past her repeatedly (when tidying etc). She will sit near me then suddenly leap up and bite my lower legs or ankles. She’s drawing blood and it’s making me so angry. It doesn’t seem like play, she seems genuinely annoyed at me and it’s a proper bite usually accompanied by claws. Is there anything I can do to dissuade her from this? Or can anyone shed any light on her reasons for doing it?

As you know what seems to trigger it can you try and break the habit by throwing a toy or a treat before you do the triggering things?

Does she go outside and get plenty of stimulation?

your constant interruptions make her feel unsafe so she is attacking. When she is trying to relax don’t go past her all the time. Does she have a space she can be in by herself?

Mine is much better when she can get up somewhere high!

I also play with her to burn some energy off before I need to do something that's going to take my attention.

To be fair, cats do have a habit of positioning themselves repeatedly in places where they will get in the way or be able to take umbrage at the humans 😹

My boy bites when he’s bored! How much do you play with her? Mine needs a good 45-1 hour of lively play each day or we get into biting territory! We take turns to give him 10-20 mins at a time throughout the day.

Thanks all, I think you’ve probably identified the problem, she’s definitely had less play time of late. I’ll increase the attention she’s getting and will make sure she’s got something to do when it’s time to do the washing! Thanks again, I appreciate the help.
