How is your cat in this heat?

My two cats, about to turn 1yr old next week, are enjoying their first summer, exploring the neighbouring gardens and learning the cat roolz around here 🤣
Yesterday was hotter and they spent the day outside hunting flies and then chilling in the shade, only coming in to check on us periodically and then straight back out 😊

Mine love it. The smaller one lies in direct sun and cooks most of the day, with periodic forays into the shade. She was lying, feet in the air basking in sun yesterday, with a fat pigeon less than 2 metres away. Totally oblivious, or couldn't be arsed to chase it. Smile

The bigger one is nowhere to be found so probably skulking in a bush sleeping.

They do like to potter in the garden with me sometimes.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/06/2022 09:55

Fortunately magic isn't too keen. She's long haired and black, so she gets kept in in extreme heat.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 16/06/2022 10:00

My too are not keen if its too hot and find somewhere in the shade to nap. My house is always cool inside as it doesn't have any rooms that the sun streams into (I hate being overheated) so they tend to nap inside during the day and then go out at dusk being crepuscular creatures.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 16/06/2022 10:06

Basil and Lenny were dirty stop outs last night. Obviously it's much cooler outside so I don't blame them.
They are spending most of their days languidly sprawled across any bit of floor or furniture that is handy for them but inconvenient for the humans.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 16/06/2022 10:43

And as an example - a languid Basil on the floor by the bed.

How is your cat in this heat?
kittenkipping · 17/06/2022 18:40

Mine have a deep love hate relationship with heat. They are indoor cats, but lounge in the sun moving window to window wherever the sun hits through the day. But equally, they can't bring themselves to eat. They WANT food, but then eat a few bites and abandon it because it's too hot. Then wake me on the middle of the night hungry. One of them hits the water fountain hard and makes herself vomit . It's a nightmare really

ItsSnowJokes · 17/06/2022 18:46

Mine is grumpy and doesn't know what to do with herself. She is not eating much in the daytime at all. She keeps finding cool places but then gets too hot. We have put cooling mats down but she doesn't trust them 🤣

LuciusMeowFoy · 17/06/2022 19:08

Mine is stupidly fluffy and has spent the afternoon sunbathing in the hottest room of the house. This is after refusing to leave the cool garage all morning 🤷‍♀️

Trinity65 · 17/06/2022 19:17

Both mostly been flaked out most of the Day
Hoping it will cool a bit in a while
They are 11 and 8

Soubriquet · 17/06/2022 19:20

Mine keeps walking through the house then doing a massive flop on the first cold spot she finds. We have a lot of laminate and tile flooring so she has plenty to choose from.

She does glare at me from time to time though as if it’s my fault it’s so hot

InvincibleInvisibility · 17/06/2022 19:25

Think mine is suffering. He's 9 months and this is his first heatwave. Its 36 where we live (not UK) and his fave sleeping spots are the granite kitchen work surface and the bath.

He's gone off his food too. Although he has perked up since i gently poured a load of water on him (he doesn't mind) so I think that I ll need to keep doing that.

MsOllie · 17/06/2022 19:27

Asleep in his fluffy cat bed without a care in the world. He's avoiding outside, it's cooler in

zafferana · 17/06/2022 19:28

I don't know where she is - out in the garden under a bush in the shade probably. She came in all covered in bits earlier!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/06/2022 19:29

Our female cat was out till 1.50am , I was trying to bribe her in with Dreamies but she was happily chasing moths .

Our male goes pootling off into NDN very overgrown garden , we hear him miaow occasionally .

I gave them water inside and outside and put the wetfood scraps in the bin once they'd eaten as I don't want a load of flies on it .

When we water the plants they wander round the garden nonchalantly , then sprint across the garden like demons .

Both short haired blackcats so not the best in heat , but they're enjoying pretending to be wild with the safety net of All , there's dinner

TeenPlusCat · 17/06/2022 19:31

My 11yo DCat who we have only had 10 minths isn't hungry and not as bouncy as usual. This is impacting DD who struggles with anxiety.
This makes DH and I worried about both of them. But I worry that I'm not worried enough, and so I go round in circles.

Cuckoo48 · 17/06/2022 19:32

Cooking himself in the conservatory (however many times I bring him into the cooler house).

Purplecatshopaholic · 17/06/2022 19:34

Mine all love it, even my long haired one. Snoozing in the conservatory even when it hits 50 degrees, lol. Nutters

Babdoc · 17/06/2022 19:34

This heat??? I live in Scotland…! Madam is curled up in her woolly blanket, napping, away from the chilly wind.

MsOllie · 17/06/2022 20:10

Mine is now insisting on lying on me
Very cooling Hmm

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 17/06/2022 20:17

Mine have hidden in the shrub beside the boat, coming inside to either flop in front of the fan or flat out on the base plate.
appetites not affected.

Melassa · 17/06/2022 20:22

Mine’s asleep in the bidet, it’s 36 here too and he spends all day flaked out.I bought him a cool mat which I even tried to pop in the freezer but he prefers the bidet for some reason.

Caspianberg · 17/06/2022 20:22

Mine love it. It’s 36 where we live today, gets down to -15/20 in winter and both don’t seem bothered at all by the extreme change in temperatures.

One had a play with toddlers water play earlier. Otherwise has been snoozing in the heat. Even though it’s much cooler indoors

DontKeepTheFaith · 17/06/2022 20:23

Dcat is suffering. She’s a long haired ragdoll and just looks miserable. I’m trying to keep areas cooler for her and am debating buying her a fan but in true cat style, she will only go where she wants when she wants and ignores any efforts mum has made to keep areas cool🤣

Fluffruff · 17/06/2022 20:23

Ours are nearly 2. One hasn’t moved from the shady bedroom floor under a chair. The other has been asleep in the kitchen all day. Now they are getting up and going out!

spidersenses · 17/06/2022 21:16

What heat? It's been raining most of the day. My cats are fine 😂. Hopefully all of the UK will get decent weather soon.
