A new visitor

There's a new cat on the block - he's only 10 months old so still learning his manners. This means that he brazenly strolls into my house at any time of the day or night, eats everyone's food and tries (and fails) to play with boy cat.

Boy cat will tolerate him in the garden, but not the house - visitor cat was doing some excellent belly rolling in front of him the other day, but freaking out when visitor cat tried to turn this into playing. I successfully got them playing with a stick together, which just about melted my heart.

Stupidly we just got a new back door fitted with a bog standard, non microchip catflap installed. Girl cat is a little nighttime nomad wanderer and shutting her in at night isn't an option (for our sleep, sanity and soft furnishings).

He's cute as hell and very sweet so it doesn't really bother me, I'm just fretting about my 2 getting stressed.

Any tips or should I just accept I now have 2 and a half cats?

Who owns him?

Basilbrushgotfat · 13/06/2022 10:06

Don't encourage him in the house. It's not fair on your cats or the kittens family.

Get a microchip cat flap

I definitely don't enourage him, I've carted him out several times! I've also made the new cats owner aware.

@Fluffycloudland77 new people a few doors down. This is his first week out and about apparently so I'm hoping the novelty of our house will wear off soon.

It's up to his humans to keep tabs on him. If he wants to visit you, there's not a whole lot you can do to stop him. Don't feed him or make him feel too at home😄. He's a sociable chap. I've got one of those!

Oh he's absolutely lovely, definitely needs to learn some manners (he really enjoyed chasing me when I was in a maxi skirt) but that will come with time. Boy cat really loves other cats but has grown up with grumpy girl cat so isn't very au fait with playing!

They were happily lying in the garden together the other day, but when visitor cat wants to play chase boy cat doesn't know how to react so does a really pathetic yowl and jump.

If we catch him going to their food he's swiftly shown the door, much to his dismay.

Our little visitor is being very insistent so our 2 are in and the cat flap is locked... This will be a long night!
