Any advice or explanation for this

My cat came in from outside last night and just lay down. Very unusual (we haven't got a cat flap so have to open the door). She didn't go to her food bowl or walk round the room like usual. She was breathing quite fast. I thought I'd leave her until the morning as she didn't seem in distress and I've leant out my cat carrier so couldn't go to the vet last night. This morning she's purring when I stroke her but hasn't got up for food.

I've ordered a cat carrier to pick up this morning and I'll go straight to the vet afterwards but I wondered if anyone could tell me if it could be that she's had a fright outside (she's a very nervous cat anyway) or if she's got something physically wrong with her.

Thanks so much. I'm on my own and I don't want to upset my teenage son with it.

It sounds like she's injured, you need to get her to a vet. Cats are very good at hiding pain.

Yep vets. Where she will no doubt make a miraculous recovery as soon as you've shelled out the money. Looking at your Cheddar

Thanks guys. Running around this morning!

She's at the vets. They can't find anything wrong but need to do blood test, and check heart and lungs to be certain.

It's a relief to have them dealing with her but on verge of tears all the time! Thanks for the support. Hopefully it's nothing x

Any news?

Portiasparty · 03/06/2022 00:06

They think she has a heart issue. She's got fluid round her heart. They think they can treat it with medication so they've kept her over night. It's really quiet at home and her brother is pining (they fight when she's here but I think he's missing her). You don't realise how much noise they make until they're not around, as she's a really vocal cat. Hopefully it's good news.

Thanks for thinking of us.

@Portiasparty
Any update about your little girl?

Portiasparty · 10/06/2022 09:35

Thanks so much for thinking of me (I actually started another thread this morning but haven't had a reply yet). She's really not very well and not eating at all, despite me trying all varieties of food. I'm going to the vets today. I'm a bit lost as I don't want to give up on her but I don't want to her to suffer either. In floods here. I really appreciate you reaching out because I feel pretty alone as people don't always understand how much our pets mean to us!

Cats can lose their appetite after illness and can be difficult to coax back to eating.
One of mine refused to eat for 5 days after a nasty episode of vomiting. Lost 100g a day and terrified me. The vet gave her an antihistamine pill to stimulate appetite which worked thankfully..
Tips for food - warm it slightly, mine finally gave in to poached chicken with lick e licks.

Thanks Beamur. I will try this. It's just because she's also got a heart condition rather than just the not eating that I'm especially worried. Also because she eat a bit a couple of days ago and isn't even interested in any food at all now. But I'll give it a try.

While mine wasn't eating she was also being investigated for a kidney problem. It was very stressful, you have my sympathies. Hope your kitty pulls through.

Want2beme · 10/06/2022 10:16

Hope she gets better very soon. I second trying lik e lincks. My cat who was suffering with kidney issues, liked these and I thought, even of he's not eating, at least he's tasting something.
