Nighttime chaos!

So, Dcat, has recently turned into a little nightmare cat. Moved to new house with DH last summer. Previously no issues with Madam overnight (exclusively inside cat)

First couple of months, no problems. Since Christmas or so though, every morning around 3am she’s been jumping on the window ledge in our room and rattling the blinds. We’ve tried blinds open, blinds shut. Cord up, cord down. Doesn’t matter - she’ll rattle them somehow.

She has 3 other bedrooms to go play on their window sills and rattle the blinds, but no no, only picks our room.

Weirdly though, if DH is away for the night, she just curls up on the bed next to me and sleeps nicely till I get up at 6/7 😂

It’s driving husband slightly bonkers, we’ve solved it temporarily for now by shutting her out of the bedroom at night and she curls up happily on the spare bed / her own bed / sofa / wherever.

BUT - we’re due our first baby in a few weeks and won’t be able to have the bedroom door shut in a few months time as I’ll need to be able to hear her from the nursery, so need to get this sorted. We’ve just done an 8 week stretch of bedroom door closed at night, and thought maybe she’s broken the habit - nope, like clockwork, jumped on the window ledge this morning and started playing with the blinds.

House is all open plan downstairs, so can’t shut her in the kitchen etc, plus madam’s litter tray and food is in the upstairs bathroom and not really another alternative space for those.

Any ideas?? Just need her to stop jumping on the bloody windowsill in our room!

Get a baby monitor and keep your bedroom.door shut?

SimpleHoardOfTruth · 27/05/2022 05:39

Don't know but she's a beautiful nuisance 😊

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 27/05/2022 05:41

No help but at least she will keep you entertained on night feds

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 27/05/2022 05:41

Feeds even 🤣 it's too early

We're moving this thread over to the Litter Tray topic for the OP. Thanks to everyone who's responded so far.

Can you put things on the windowsill? A plant or photos maybe.

Beamur · 27/05/2022 10:02

She's doing it to get your attention.
I put dry food down for my cats overnight and it does seem to discourage them waking me for food. They have a snack and then snuggle up like good kitties.

Toddlerteaplease · 27/05/2022 10:42

She is gorgeous, and far too innocent looking to cause problems.

only ones you don't care about though.

Retrievemysanity · 27/05/2022 11:45

@YetAnotherSpartacus 🤣 I did nearly add ‘depending on how well behaved she is with those sort of things’. Ours are generally quite good!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 27/05/2022 11:50

One of mine is and only because he spends 30% of his time sleeping and 70% badgering me for food and/or eating but the other one is a little furry vandal who lives to destroy my house. She'd think that photos/plants were put there explicitly for the purpose of her knocking them over.

iklboo · 27/05/2022 12:04

She's attention seeking. One of ours shakes my arm to wake me up (like a human would) and if that does work he sits on my back shouting 'MOWW' down my ear until I do.

Yes the issue with this is you then get the “tap tap… pause… tap tap, slide…. Smash”
which is equally infuriating at 3am!

@Toddlerteaplease she gets away with blue murder in the house because of her innocent face!

She might voluntarily stay down stairs once baby starts crying at night?

nocoolnamesleft · 27/05/2022 18:32

Admit defeat. Switch from blinds to curtains.
