8 month old cat

As you may remember, I am on the hunt for a new set of paws to rule my life. I'm looking for a pair as I do work out of the home (rubbish internet) and they will need to keep each other company. I can be out of the house up to 12 hours, but having new cats will give me a reason to pack up on time and bog off home a lot faster.

A local shelter has a bonded pair of voids available. One is 3-4 years old, but the other is only 8 months. My previous cat was 7 when she arrived and her hobby was sleeping between naps. Toys and cat towers were treated with disdain.

I am a little concerned that, even with a friend in the house, the 8 month old will not get enough stimulation. I can leave toys and what have you. A cat flap is being arranged, but she will be in the flat for 6 weeks before that can be unveiled. I am pretty unconcerned about the wallpaper and breakables can be kept in storage till I assess her shelf climbing habits. A minor amount of destruction is expected and will be tolerated (the flat is mine, so no landlord to worry about).

What concerns me is that I will not be enough for her with all that childish energy. I do not want to let her down

I am having a video meeting this afternoon, but I would appreciate any thoughts of the wise Litter Bearers.

I do know the rules, but unfortunately, the computer isn't playing, so won;t post the pic I have. Am I allowed to post the link to the page on the shelter site?

He won't be 8 months for ever, so I'd go for it!

Toddlerteaplease · 11/05/2022 10:53

And he maywell have already passed the crazy kitten stage

Want2beme · 11/05/2022 10:57

As they are bonded, I'd say the older cat will be enough company for the cheeky little one and will continue to teach her manners/cat etiquette at the same time😉. My youngish cat came along the latter part of last year and I know that I'm not enough for him and he'd be much better suited to a household with older children to play with. Sadly, it's almost imposible to find homes for cats where I live, so we do our best and fortunately, he has a 5 year old brother who loves to play with him, so I don't feel so bad.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 11/05/2022 11:27

I agree with @Want2beme
If the cats are genuinely a bonded pair it really isn't likely to be an issue. They will happily keep each other amused when they aren't snoozing.

TheSecondMrsAshwell · 11/05/2022 14:17

Well I've just had the video meeting with them and I am SO adopting them. The younger has a lot of energy, but loves her toys. So basically, I just need to provide them with a lot of toys.

I'll have to have a kitty shower.

Brilliant news OP - keep us updated 👍

The Voids.

The front one will probably be called Minouche. I'll have to think about the smaller, younger one.

Honestly my youngest was past the kitten stuff by about then anyway.

He's settled pretty easily into the "adult" lounging about phase.

Loves looking out a window for ages.

If we initiate play he will join in a lot quicker and for longer than the older cats. But I don't worry about him being under stimulated as he can go outside.

ColdApril · 11/05/2022 15:37

Ah that'll teach me not to RTFT.

Congratulations. A beautiful void pair. Having two that snuggle is the loveliest and I also think it calms them additionally and they have each other to wrestle with to burn off energy.

Want2beme · 11/05/2022 17:06

They are beautiful. Here's my 2, Ambrose and Flint, on their cathouse😻

Wishing you all well😁

They are beautiful. Two black cats is awesome. You are never entirely sure which is which. Especially after dark! GrinGrin

Want2beme · 11/05/2022 20:50

It's certainly a challenge😬

TheSecondMrsAshwell · 12/05/2022 11:12

@ColdApril
No, the more info the better, so don't worry.

@Want2beme
Your two are gorgeous. They look as though they are plotting how to get into the food cupboard.

@Toddlerteaplease

I shall be keeping my two away from the laptop. If they see how pampered your babies are, I will be in serious trouble.

They require a Teepee!

TheSecondMrsAshwell · 12/05/2022 13:22

I have to see how big they are together to choose their teepee.

The one at the backs an evil genius. You can tell by the eyes.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/05/2022 14:29

Yes. I agree with Fluffy, he looks like trouble. 😄😄

TheSecondMrsAshwell · 13/05/2022 10:16

@Fluffycloudland77

She's the younger one and still has time to learn so much.

They're lovely! I had never heard of 'voids' despite having a wonderful one myself. Just thought of him as an all-black moggy!

Want2beme · 13/05/2022 10:39

I haven't heard of "voids" either.

When will they start living take over with you, TheSecondMrsAshwell?

AwkwardPaws27 · 13/05/2022 10:48

Completely depends on the cat.
Older girl was pretty chilled out by around 6 months.
Younger boy has just turned two; yesterday he scaled me and climbed onto my head, before using it as a (failed) launchpad onto the shed roof. He's a special case.

TheSecondMrsAshwell · 13/05/2022 12:51

If all goes according to the cunning plan, I should collect the laydees next Friday/Saturday (depending on the staff at the shelter). I have booked kitty leave to settle them in.

@AwkwardPaws27
That sounds like fun with a capital furrrrrrr.

AwkwardPaws27 · 13/05/2022 12:53

@TheSecondMrsAshwell luckily he has many redeeming qualities!

TheSecondMrsAshwell · 19/05/2022 10:26

Quick update......

I am picking up the laydees Saturday lunchtime.

Woooo-hooo!
