Update on Zeus

So I thought you may like an Zeus update. When I got him he had been feral for 5 years, the cat rescue hadn’t socialised him and he had been there for 6 months with no enquiries and wasn’t coping well.
there have been lots of accidents and for the first few months he wouldn’t stay in a room with me.
now he still won’t be cuddled and refuses to go out but he snoozes on the window all day, no stress related accidents and he has started chatting to me. Please excuse the hair on the curtains that is his safe space and I don’t want to mess it up for him.

What a beautiful boy!😍

SalsaLove · 02/05/2022 21:49

What a beautiful boy. Keep giving him love. Talk to him and play with him. Let him come round in his own time. Xx

freeandfierce · 02/05/2022 21:49

He's lovely! Pity he isn't a cuddler, he looks like he'd give good ones! You've done an amazing thing offering him a home and being patient.

Walkingthedog46 · 02/05/2022 21:51

You’re doing a grand job. He’s lucky to have found such a lovely, patient Mum! 💕🐈

Honaloulou · 02/05/2022 21:53

This gives me such hope for a feral cat I cared for (both senses of that phrase) but has just been taken in by a rescue. Lovely to know that these dignified chaps can have a chilled and comfortable time.

Thank you!

joangray38 · 02/05/2022 22:19

Maybe one day he will get me cuddle him. He is a huge cat but he sounds like an otter when he meeps! Thank you for all your kind words it has been hard work getting to this stage - lots of vomiting and accidents when he got worked up. I think a lot of people would have sent him back. I think the world of him and we will keep going. I hated the look of fear in his eyes when he saw me but that’s gone now. He can see I won’t hurt him.

How long has it been so far Joan? It took me over 6 months before I could even touch the bolder of my pair of ex-ferals, and they were only 1 when they were trapped then a year at the rescue.

I have just finally managed to extracate myself from a 30 minute cuddle on my bed (2nd of the morning) from Boycat (the shyer/scareder of the 2, and with "issues") so I can get ready for work. It's taken 6 years to get here, and though I can pick them both up for cuddles they still won't sit on my lap.

One day, one day Smile

He is gorgeous. And I am so impressed that you are leaving his curtain alone.
We had two feral cats from the cats home. It took the older cat 3 years to really trust us. She then became the ultimate cuddle cat. She just needed time. Your beautiful boy is coming along much faster. My girl ran away for 6 weeks to live outside again. She came back for food then warmth when it got colder.
I bet your Zeus is widely admired in your area if he sits in the window all day.

joangray38 · 03/05/2022 20:37

@Allergictoironing ive had him 10months sometimes it seems longer! @Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit yes people stop and admire him through the window. The window / curtains are his space so I ignore the fur. I think it’s pride comes before a fall. I used to cat sit and work at a vets and I could always win even the most stubborn unfriendly feline over: I thought I would be able to do the same here! Thank you for all the kind comments they mean a lot.

10 months is no time to make up for 5 years of being feral. He's obviously making progress, and that will continue Smile
