Astro turf

Moving to a house thats got astro turf in the rear garden. Is that going to be OK for the cat? I have a vague recollection it's not good for pets? But can't find anything when googling.

My biggest worry is that it'll encourage her to use the other gardens, currently she generally uses ones patch in our current garden

Thanks 😊

I have a big wooden planter filled with a mix of compost, horticultural grit and a sprinkling of cat litter on the top as an outdoor cat litter tray so my cat doesn’t use other peoples gardens. Is something like that an option?
when you say she currently uses one patch in your garden is that usually bare Earth rather than lawn? My cat wouldn’t use the lawn anyway tbh.
I do wonder if the cat will like walking on artificial grass, I don’t think it will be as comfortable underfoot as real grass.

I have astro turf, and I noticed that the neighbourhood cats tended to walk around it rather than on it, so I gather it must be uncomfortable for them. As it doesn’t smell like real grass at all, I doubt they will try to eat it (unless they have pica). I’d second the suggestion above to set up some planters or an outside litter tray for your cat to use.
