Can anyone recommend a good cat tracker?

First time posting. We rescued a beautiful cat a few months ago. He is extremely nervous still and has a habit of running off and hiding if you come too close or if there is a new noise he doesn't like, although is generally very friendly and doesn't bite or scratch. He has never really shown any interest in going outside until recently, and I have been taking him into the garden with me for a couple of hours each day. He now wants to jump over the fence and explore a bit wider.

I am keen for him to go out more as he seems to love it and was shut away for most of his life, but worry he will get spooked and hide somewhere I won't be able to find him. Can anyone recommend a good cat tracker so I will know where he is? I have seen a few online but they mostly seem to have quite poor reviews. I am happy to pay for a subscription in the short term until he gets more used to outside.

Thanks!

We got a Tractive and it’s great.

Managed to track her down when she was trapped in a neighbours garage.

hi, I was about to post a similar question. I looked at Tractive, but it seems really big, and my cat is quite small. I was wondering about ones that are more like a tag that hangs from the collar, but I do want one with 'live' tracking. My cat is only about 3kg or so and quite small so a big tracker will not be popular! She left the garden a week or so ago and didn't come home till 3am, and had clearly got lost or something, as she was a bit out of sorts for a day or so. I've not let her out since, as am scared she will get lost.

My cat is 3.5kg and I was worried about it being too big, but it’s fine. See pic.

ah brill, thanks @HesGotHisTrombole I think I'll go ahead with Tractive - seems to get best reviews. your cat is gorgeous! I'm not sure how keen mine will be on actually having it taken on/off... I suspect many treats will be required!

Can I ask how the collar works with that tracker? Is it just a quick release one, in which case I guess the tracker could come off with the collar if caught on bushes etc?

I have it on a normal quick release collar and she has come home without it twice.

it’s easy to find with the GPS and when you get close you can make it beep and flash so we have easily found it both times.

That's good then.
I may have to get one for my cat, he has an apple airtag on his collar at the moment and it's pretty rubbish. We have tried Pawtrack in the past but it was absolutely terrible.
My other cat is missing at the moment and it's the worse feeling ever 😢
I don't understand why the microchips can't have a tracker in them, it would make life so much easier for the thousands of lost cats.

@HeadacheGrey
Looking this up myself at the moment as one of our cats has been missing for 5 days. I am heartbroken. Her sister has now also not come home for 24 hours which makes me worried that she has gone looking for her or that there is a cat snatcher around?

Has your missing cat come home yet?
