I have three indoor cats Ash cat has a uti again I'm dealing with it as best I can multiple vet visits including an out of hours visit last weekend he is on metacam and I'm keeping his fluids up they did a procedure the other day to get a sterile sample off him to test for infection I won't get the results till next week they scanned him and saw a few concerns in his bladder but they are hoping it's just debris from his cystitis
Charlie cat is terrified of the vets he has massive meltdowns attacking ash stalking him around the house getting aggressive with everyone he lashes out hisses bites growls guards the door so no-one can get through without him going for them I got him checked by the vet he is healthy but obviously terrified he was trembling his heart was racing he even has a slight heart murmur which they say is common in cats scared at the vets he is also now attacking the third cat
They are brothers and have lived together almost there entire life (third cat came to me after his original placement broke down)
What do I do? Ash needs to be kept calm they think his cystitis is caused by stress Charlie isn't being calm and is causing a lot of stress Charlie is utterly miserable right now but they used to be a bonded pair always sleeping together grooming each other playing etc now they can't walk past each other on the stairs
Things I've done
Seperate feeding and toilet areas Seperate water areas
Play time Ash and Charlie are overweight they have dedicated play times together to encourage positive interaction
Diet this has had to change as Ash needs more liquid in his diet I'm trying to push wet food he won't have it Charlie will I can't just change it overnight because again this will cause stress
Feliway I've switched from friends to optimum
I seperated them after ashes procedure because he stank of vets this distressed everyone and confused cat three as he was trying to go between both his brothers and ended up downstairs with Charlie when I let them out the next day the first thing Charlie did was swat Ash the second was swat him
Rehoming has been discussed but Charlie is my eldest sons cat Ash is mine I suppose if I could guarantee he was going into a good single cat household it would break my heart but I guess I could live with it if it was best for him except I really don't want to and won't that stress him too? He is currently sucking on my clothes padding me he is super attached to me
Tried to medicate Charlie its a no I've spent a fortune trying even spent £27 on some brown stuff from the vets he refused it when I wrapped him and gave it to him he vomited
I'm at a loss
And cat three has just hissed at ash fucks sake
Going outside is a no go I live in an anti cat area they regularly put down poisen I was only ever going to have one cat and due to various circumstances ended up with three
If Ash survives this I don't know what to do moving forward it sounds dramatic but he has had so much medication and he is still peeing blood after a week the vets are unsure if he will pull through this time or not
Please be kind I've had them for almost four years happily this has hit me out of nowhere
