Leaving cat alone over night

Hi All. My Cat is almost 2, I leave him home alone for 5/6 hours max regularly.. He seems to just sleep when I'm gone.
I want to go away for a night this weekend I would be leaving the house at 6.30pm and should get back at 2pm the next day. Does this seem ok? I've never left him before

Yeah he'll be fine. As long as he has access to water, biscuits, and a place to pee and poop.

OkPedro · 14/04/2022 01:02

Thanks.. I feel like I'm leaving my child alone 😅

He'll be absolutely fine. If you're worried you could always get a cat sitter to come in in the morning and give him breakfast though.

Mine are left for a week or two at a time with two visits a day Smile

Thanks fairylightsandmaxmelts
I'll be leaving him for a week in August but have a cat sitter coming in twice a day for that week

You could set up a pet camera? Then you’d be able to check in and see them sleeping and feel reassured.

(It’s not necessary though, they’ll be fine. Smile)

Ours are fine for an overnight trip - as long as they have food and water and litter tray/catflap. They rarely seem bothered, and they're all quite needy usually.

Once (in an emergency) we left them for 2 days with LOTS of food and water etc - our girl cat was in a bit of a sulk about that so I'd usually get my sister to pop in if it was more than 1 night but she got over it quick enough Smile

This is true, if you think you'll worry - my friend got one online for about £30. But agreed, it's not necessary and don't be too anxious, they'll be fine! :)

Having had a completely unexpected electrical fault at home some years back that resulted in a fire when we were out, I wouldn’t do it.

Working on that theory then nobody should ever leave their house unattended . The OPs house could burn down just as easily when she is out at work .

That could just as easily happen in a cattery, or when OP is out at work or down at the shops.

Yes, it's horrendous but using your logic, you'd never leave your animals home alone in that case?

gogohm · 14/04/2022 17:22

We leave dcat alone for up to about 48 hours. She hates the cattery, dislikes the pet sitter and doesn't behave herself at other peoples houses (with dogs they come with you) she refuses to use a litter box too (has a cat flap) so we leave her, she's fine when we get back

OkPedro · 14/04/2022 20:59

Thanks all ❤️
I leave him alone while I'm at work so I wouldn't be worried about a fire as such otherwise I couldn't ever leave the house. I have a camera in the kitchen so I can check up on him while I'm gone. I never thought I could love an animal as much as I love him 😊 I know he'll be fine

We leave ours when we're on holiday with lots of water and dry food around, we have a couple of cat cameras so if we didnt see her we would have to come home

OkPedro · 15/04/2022 00:41

@fairylightsandwaxmelts

Oh what a beauty, I love when they tuck their legs underneath them 😍

@bellac11 I have the one camera in the kitchen so I'll keep an eye on him. I plan to get two more for when we go away in the summer
