Cat litter. I still haven't got it right!

I have had my cat for nearly a year and am still not quite happy with the cat litter.

We have tried all types. The cat is more than happy with anything but will only use a litter tray even though she goes out.
I personally like the ultra clumping. It took me a while to realise this and what it is called.

How often do you change it?

Where do you get the cheapest (but still good) ultra clumping?

Zooplus is good for various litters. Ultra clumping means you need to change the whole litter tray less often as you can remove pee and poo.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/04/2022 10:01

I scoop daily and full change once a month.

GenevieveLenard · 12/04/2022 10:34

Not sure how it works out cost-wise, but this stuff is a pleasure to use (as much as cleaning the litter tray can be!) It’s not particularly scented, but definitely ultra clumping, haven’t done a full change in months and it’s fine as long as it’s deep enough

My cats inform me that this brand is acceptable to them. Very fine grain, not strongly scented. Clumps nicely. Cheap as chips in B&M.

The bob martn's clumping cat litter is £2.99 in B&M.
I've worked out the hard way that my cat doesn't like non clumping.

Pascha · 12/04/2022 10:43

Full change about every 3 weeks give or take.

Mumdiva99 · 12/04/2022 10:44

I buy whatever clumping is on offer. I like the really fine ones as they clump better. But the cats seem to walk that out the tray more- so messier.
I'm afraid that price and availability are my key priorities.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/04/2022 11:13

Wilko do an ultraclumping litter.

Definitelynotem · 12/04/2022 11:22

I recommend the Pets at Home Antibacterial ultra clumping. It's the only one to me that doesn't smell and is so much easier to scoop than others that I've tried. Really good litter and I've tried lots of them!

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 12/04/2022 14:28

We buy Greenwoods clumping litter as it's all natural. We have three cats and three trays and buy it in bulk off ZooPlus - we get 60l of litter for less than £40 and it lasts us a good 3-4 months. Less than £10 a week for three cats is pretty good going IMO, especially as all mine are indoor only and one weighs a whopping 9kg, lol.

I scoop the poo everytime they go and empty the clumps twice a day. We do a complete change once a month and top up once or twice a week.

Madcats · 12/04/2022 17:26

I buy huge bags of Cat's Best from Zooplus, primarily because that's what they had as kittens.

They do tramp it about a bit in/on their paws.

It's probably not ultra clumping , but the litter tray is easy to clean.

DontKeepTheFaith · 18/04/2022 21:00

I like cats best. Very little smell and it clumps well making it easy to scoop.

Won’t lie, it gets everywhere until thin’ that is our princess of a cat rather than the litter🤣🤣

She has outdoor access but comes in to wee and poo and spread her litter around😻

Anomalocaris · 18/04/2022 21:04

I think I've tried all of the litters (or damn close) and Intersand is my favourite. I only need to do a full tray clean about every 8 weeks.

HomeprideSaucy · 18/04/2022 22:02

We have have used Sainsburys ultra-clumping litter but they don't always have it so sometimes I have to go the another supermarket or Pets at Home.
I scoop whenever I pass the tray and notice something in it.
I use a full bag at a time and when it starts to get very low, I tip the rest away, wash out the tray and start afresh. This is about once a week (one indoor cat, with only one tray in the house)

RandomMess · 18/04/2022 22:12

Love VanCat just sift and never need to do a full change.

Another vote for vancat. 5 cats and roughly £10 per week or less. Just scoop the solids, so long as it’s deep enough, the tray doesn’t need changing.

LimeSegment · 22/04/2022 05:21

I also like the clumping litter the best. Every 3-4 weeks I let the tray run down as low as possible to use up all the old litter, then fill it up fresh.

RandomMess · 22/04/2022 16:14

Worlds Best is great too and is flushable BUT my cat tracks it like buggery in his massive floofy paws hence moved to VanCat.

Subbaxeo · 23/04/2022 16:14

Have you tried Catsan smart packs? Wee soaks into a nappy like substance at the bottom so you just puck up poo. Then you bundle the whole thing in the bin - lasts 1-2 weeks. Best I’ve tried.
