Are there any Robert the Allotment Cat followers on here who can explain to me why I feel so utterly bereft about a bloody cat I’ve never even met? It’s heartbreaking.
And I can’t believe there isn’t already a thread on here about this unless I’ve missed it??

I am sorry for your distress, but I don't know this cat: what's his story?

Wbeezer · 11/04/2022 20:55

Haven't come across Robert but I spent ages the other day trying to find a picture online of Denis the Barnsdale cat from Gardeners World in Geoff Hamiltons days in the early 90s, but as he is from the pre Internet days he doesn't exist online. I used to look out for Denis lurking in the background. You are not alone feeling attached to cats you've never met.

TotoAnnihiliation · 11/04/2022 21:04

He lived round the corner from me. I had the pleasure of meeting him. It was a tragic accident that happened. I've cried a lot since Friday.

TheSpottedZebra · 11/04/2022 21:07

I'm a lover of both cats and allotments and I'd never heard of him.

But I've googled and now I have. How desperately sad. He looked a lovely panther.

Want2beme · 12/04/2022 14:57

I don't know of Robert. I'm so sorryFlowers

It appears I’m in the minority then - he has/had a massive Twitter following. For anyone who wasn’t aware, if you just Google him and the Walsall Road allotments, you can get up the Twitter account and the stories about the cats who live there, and the sad story of Robert’s demise.
Thanks for your replies x

Hi @weekend2021, I posted Roberts story about saving the allotments and also posted a link to a change org petition re the allotment owners needing car access during the games to feed the cats and other wildlife.

It says that MNHQ have hidden it until they look at it but hopefully will appear.

RIP Robert 😢

@CatServant2020

How strange, I can’t think why they would hide it! I’d already signed the petition about the allotment access during the Games.
Also bought the calendar this year to help towards vet fees, and Robert’s book.
The people at the allotment do a fantastic job looking after the health and wellbeing of the cats - poor Robert just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It’s so sad Sad

The allotment holders are devastated. It's a magical place, a real urban oasis. I would add my own pictures if Robert on here if I could work out how to crop DD out,

TotoAnnihiliation · 12/04/2022 18:24

Here we go, one I managed to crop.

Robert RIP

@TotoAnnihiliation

Lovely photo of him, he was such a character. You’re so lucky to have got to meet him. I live too far away to have visited but always read his Tweets in a morning!

It might be the petition link that has caused the post to be hidden.

TalkingCat · 12/04/2022 22:24

I feel the same as you. It's so sad.
