cat's missing

sob! my wee kitten (well, 10 months) who has just been going in the garden for a month or so, has today gone out of the garden. DS2 is distraught, and I'm trying to be brave - sure she'll come back, cats do just roam etc etc. Gah. Could really do with some positive stories of cats going on their first Big Wander, and coming home in time for tea.
Pic attached for cute factor.

One of our cats is a notorious wanderer. He's disappeared for weeks at a time, but has always come back. (He is neutered before anyone asks). I think he gets trapped somewhere, so check with all your neighbours. They have a great sense of smell and can find their way back.
We have a routine now, I post on the Facebook group for our local streets and the wider area, all the local lost cat/pet pages and then post leaflets through our neighbours doors.
I also resorted to putting my husband's smelly socks out once. Keep calling and shaking food. Fingers crossed for you, it is very stressful.

loopylindi · 07/04/2022 15:59

Chances are she's not far away and will be home for tea. Is there any food she likes that has a strong smell? Try putting some washing/clothes out on a chair or low line so she can get a whiff.
Keep us in the loop!

have put litter tray outside, and been regularly shaking the treats bag - no returning Kimi yet. Fingers crossed. It's nearly her normal tea time, so I hope she turns up soon, demanding to be fed.

Very common for them to wander off and come back later. Don't worry just yet. Bug hugs though.

Floralnomad · 07/04/2022 17:28

Hope he comes back soon @butteriesplease .

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/04/2022 17:55

I rang the chip company when ours was missing for 12hrs, they very nicely told me to come back when it was 24hrs.

butteriesplease · 07/04/2022 19:33

Oo can the chip company track them?? I thought it was just for identification if found??

Mine done the same when he first started going out alone. After 3 days I wrote out a wee card to put in the local shop window and as I opened the door to leave he was sitting on the doorstep!

Hopefully you is just out exploring the area and will be back soon. 🤞🏻

ChickenGotLegs · 07/04/2022 19:40

Another thing also is that my cat knows the sound of my keys rattling together. He still stretches up to knock them if he's wanting out and I used to shake them outside if I wanted him in, he would hear them and come running. Mine also respond to whistling too. Trained the whistling in combination with giving treats so they know my whistle means they might get something good. That's how I get mine to come home if they are close enough to hear it. Might be something worth trying 🙂

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/04/2022 19:42

They can’t be tracked on chips.

Sadly they can't, like you thought they can only be scanned if someone finds the cat and takes it to the vet.

Sadly my cat has been missing 15 days now.

Hope your lovely cat returns home soon, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

butteriesplease · 07/04/2022 19:50

Oh no @artie hope your cat comes home too xx I'm hoping my fluffball is living it up somewhere, ir found a great spot to nap but it's way past tea time and I think she's lost or stuck somewhere.

Also put an item of your worn clothing outside or a blanket on the line.
Ask neighbours to check sheds/garages, if not back by morning ring local vets and post in your local FB pages.

Floralnomad · 08/04/2022 12:20

Has your cat turned up yet @butteriesplease

butteriesplease · 08/04/2022 16:30

She's back! Rolled in at 3am. Seems OK but not asking to go out again.

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/04/2022 17:09

Well done, you’ll have some grey hairs soon after all this.

OnaBegonia · 08/04/2022 18:29

Glad to see she's back!!
You could get a tracker on her collar to save you worrying.

Floralnomad · 08/04/2022 18:49

That’s good news .

loopylindi · 08/04/2022 19:08

We are all so relieved!! You won't be as worried now when she goes out again.

ArtieTheFatCat · 08/04/2022 21:40

Great news!

ilovesooty · 08/04/2022 21:42

Brilliant news.

butteriesplease · 09/04/2022 12:45

Def going to get a tracker, the tractive one linked to above tho says not suitable for cats under 4kg, and I think Kimi is about 3kg - any recs for a smaller tracker??

Apple airtags are a lot smaller.
