Help! 2 new Rescue cats

Mother 3 & son 1, come together, been surrendered from a happy home, been with fosterer for a week before we brought them home!
We put them in the Utility room as their safe space, she's all go go go already got stuck behind the washing machine & in the coat
Cupboard, he's so laid back he's horizontal!

She made a dash out of the Utility room had a good sniff round the kitchen diner etc & went back in.

Last night she came out & sat on the sofa etc & eventually he followed but she chased him back in!
Same has happened tonight - they fine when they're both in the Utility room but she doesn't seem to want to share the rest of the space with him
They get on fine in the Utility room, sit in a bed together etc 🤷‍♀️

Did they do that at the fosterers at first though?

Just carry on slowly, she's just protecting him and trying to be top cat, are both neutered, if not get that done asap. You can also try feliway and see if that helps and maybe when you feed them move the bowls separately. They are 2 cats who need to learn to be individual in time. The last few weeks have probably been hard on them. Good luck

They are still settling in this could take weeks to months.Also my cats have a love hate relationship lol.I have a older female cat who had babys before and then i got a kitten.She would pin him down to groom him,sometimes a bit too motherly.He would get annoyed and they would scrap but other times i find them curled up together.

When mine came home (very shy & scared), Boycat (mental issues) wasn't allowed to go anywhere until Girlcat had checked it out thoroughly a few times, and they're brother & sister not mum & kitten. I'd guess she's doing the protective thing.

They are both neutered, the 1 year old boy just last Monday!

They haven't been here a week yet - I am exhausted! 🤣

Things are getting g better but seem to be switching around - he keeps bullying her abit now! 🤣

I'm not panic I g as much as I was at first / I think they're just settling in!
They are gorgeous so affectionate!

We are still using the names they came with mum is Minnie (Princess Minnie I am calling her because she is} & Ernest!
