What on earth happened to my cat!? Help!

So I have a 4 year old moggy who is a tiny wee thing but full of beans. She usually goes out early evening but always is back by 10ish to come up to bed with me.

The night before last (Thursday night to Friday morning) she didn't come up to bed, so I left the downstairs window open for her. I checked in the morning and she still wasn't home.

Mid-morning I see her run up the path to the house. Her gait was odd and when she came in she was clearly frightened. She went straight to her chair in my office and stayed put all day.

I was a little worried but figured she would be fine after a nap.

All last night she seemed spaced out, walking as if in slow motion. She had big, round eyes, even when curled up (i.e. not sleepy or blinky eyes) - Sorry my descriptions are crap.

She also started weeing outside of her litter tray. She also wee'd when my partner picked her up. She has never had accidents before now so this was very strange.

Her gait is odd, she is low and slinky. We noticed her tail was limp and her breathing was shallow and fast when she climbed up onto me.

We called the vet and got an emergency appt for this morning. My partner has taken her now and is waiting on X ray.

She is my little buddy and I'm stuck at home going out of my mind with worry. I was hoping that someone had any idea what could have happened or if anyone had any previous experience of this?

Please take her to the vet x

thecatneuterer · 12/03/2022 11:09

I'm clueless but I hope she's OK. Glad you got her to the vet.

NiceTwin · 12/03/2022 11:10

Could she have been clipped by a car, or ingested a noxious substance?
Either way, she is in the right place now she is at the vet.
Hope it isn't anything serious 🙏🏻

gunnersgold · 12/03/2022 11:11

She may have been hit by a car or had a stroke . Glad she is seeing the vet .!

Paradisaeidae · 12/03/2022 11:11

Oh poor kitty. I hope she's okay. It could be anything really but she's being checked over and you'll know soon how she is.

Cookerhood · 12/03/2022 11:11

I wonder if she's been hit by a car? The vet will know what to do. One of ours was hit by a car & had swelling on the brain, which of as making them blind & stagger. Some steroids to take down the swelling put her right.

SoupDragon · 12/03/2022 11:13

@Wonkydonkey44

Please take her to the vet x
The OP says that her DP is at the vet right now!

OP I hope she"s OK. I would guess she's been clipped by a car as others have suggested.

SwissCheeseRentedChildren · 12/03/2022 11:13

Oh no, I hope she’ll be ok.

WellNotReally · 12/03/2022 11:16

I hope she's ok, everything crossed. Did you notice her claws at all? Often when cats have been hit by cars their claws look scuffed/splintered.

RockinHorseShit · 12/03/2022 11:31

Et & fast!!

Sounds like a urinary/kidney problem & could kill her without urgent care. It may take her even with urgent care as it is very serious in cats. Sadly this happened to one of ours & she didn't survive, it was kidney stones

VET
Did you read the OP?
RockinHorseShit · 12/03/2022 11:42

Obviously not thoroughly enoughBlush... friggin migraines doing me in & has text dancing around 🤪

Sorry OP, really glad you got a prompt vet appointment. 🤞🤞🤞 for your cat.

Our Tom cat did survive something similar & he's fine 10 years later with a change to urinary support food

Motnight · 12/03/2022 11:52

I am also wondering whether she has been hit by a car, Op. Hopefully the vet will be able to advise and help.

Dearblossom · 12/03/2022 11:52

Poor little poppet, they are so dear to us, you have done the right thing, hopefully she will be on the mend soon. I have had a few cats who have been knocked on back end by a car, one walked sideways for ever more which became, in time, very humorous x

gamerchick · 12/03/2022 11:53

Anything could have happened to her. That's the realism of an outdoor cat. Hope she's ok and it's nothing serious.

Unforgettablefire · 12/03/2022 12:04

Hope your kitty is ok it’s so scary when they’re not well 💐

Wagsandclaws · 12/03/2022 12:05

Possibly run over? I hope she is ok Thanks

FourOclock · 12/03/2022 12:10

My cat was like this after being run over, he was in a terrible way but he pulled through and a few days later was home and now you'd never know

Mumdiva99 · 12/03/2022 12:13

I hope she's OK and the vet can treat her.

TheGonnagle · 12/03/2022 12:14

With the limp tail I would guess hit by a car. I hope she’s ok, I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.

ofwarren · 12/03/2022 12:21

I hope she is okay. Poor little thing Sad

ColMustardInTheLibrary · 12/03/2022 12:22

Fingers crossed 🤞

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 12/03/2022 12:24

Hoping for good news op. I had a foster dcat that had been locked in a garage and overcome with fumes.. Similar symptoms.. Or sadly a rta.
Fingers and paws crossed here op.

OohRahhMaki123 · 12/03/2022 12:25

Thanks all. Just to confirm we called the vet halfway through the day yesterday. They advised to wait 24 hours and then come in this morning which is what we did.

She has been transferred to another vet in our city and will be staying in overnight for pain relief, observations and further tests.

The vet thinks she has had some kind of impact injury to her spine. Either lightly clipped by a car or something has fallen on her. They think it is potential nerve damage which is causing issues with her back legs and incontinence.

I'm so devastated. We've done all we can for now and she is in the right place. I just don't really know what to do with myself. Thanks for all your messages. I didn't know what to do so just posted.
