Cat won’t poo in the litter tray

He’s 11.
Been perfectly fine but 3-4 weeks ago started to poo outside the litter tray - next to it or in same room.
I sieve the litter daily and change it weekly but did some research and decided to change from non clumping ( which he tracked everywhere) to clumping in the hope it would stay fresher.
No change except it’s very clear he’s weeing in there.
Any ideas?

Go back to the original litter.

Sorry I wasn’t clear - he started doing this before I changed the litter - I changed it as I thought if it was fresher he might want to use it.

Try 2 trays. Some cats like one for wees and one for poos.

So, if nothing else has changed I would take him to the vet for a physical to make sure he's otherwise happy and healthy.

Then you could look at changing the litter (again), adding an extra tray, moving the location of the tray, trying a new type of tray and also looking at his diet etc.

But definitely a vet check first to rule out any kind of illness or pain.
