Fleas 🤢

On Monday evening DH noticed a flea on his hand while sitting on the sofa with our cats. They were due their treatment in the next couple of days so we did them there and then, washed all blankets and sofa cushions, vacuumed etc. Fast forward to today, sitting on the sofa with the cats and we notice that the ears of one are literally crawling with the bastards. 🤢

The treatment we use is one with the same active ingredient as Stronghold on prescription from the vets (can't remember the brand name as we finished the pack and I threw it out). We also have a couple of flea traps (those lamps with the sticky pads) near where the cats hang out but they haven't caught anything.

Any ideas what's going on? Has the treatment failed for some reason? I thought the Stronghold type stuff was good. And why aren't they appearing in the flea traps if we have an infestation? Culprit cat is an active hunter and sometimes brings things like squirrels and rabbits which I guess carry fleas, but surely he wouldn't have so many on him unless he has a live infestation? Poor cats are going to have to spend all weekend outside now until I can call the vets on Monday!

Maybe spray the house with indorex to kill fleas in the carpets/soft furnishings

Update: we found out that the flea treatment we have been using over the last few months is actually a different active ingredient (Nexgard), and also remembered that when we treated them last week we chucked them out into the rain. I guess either of these could be the cause of the infestation.

Now our problem is that the vets won't give us any more Nexgard for another month, or any other treatment for two weeks. Poor cats are currently exiled outside and being locked in a spare room overnight as we're obviously worried about getting a bad infestation in the house. Any ideas what we can do to speed things up?! They're breaking my heart crying at the door all day, but also - fleas! 😣

Have you tried the indorex I suggested?

I've got some in order, but it seems pointless treating the house until the cats are properly treated otherwise surely they'll just bring in new fleas?

*on order

Indorex continues to work long after spraying.

Ah ok, that's good to know.
