My Cat has gone off Wet Food

I have a good sized boy, he's about 4.5kg, 4 years old. He used to like eating wet food, but since I started buying Whiskers chicken dry food he's pretty much turning his nose up at any wet food and just eats the dry food. I worry he's not getting enough water as he won't drink water in the house. I tried a water fountain, but he would have nothing to do with it. I've tried a couple of brands of wet food, but he is just not interested. Will he be alright on a mainly dry food diet? I will ask the vet when he goes in for his booster jabs in a few months.

Does he have outside access, OP? He might be drinking from puddles/rainwater/neighbours’ ponds etc. Many cats don’t like the chlorine in tap water.

He probably does! I've seen him drinking nasty water from a flower pot before Confused

My cat is 5 and the same. Loves dry food but mostly leaves the wet. She used to love it. She also doesn't seem to drink water even though it's available, except for occasionally sticking her head in my water glass. She has access outside so I assume she's drinking elsewhere.

Oh you've only tried two types? You need to try at least 3 more, and then your cat will go back to the first one. Don't recommend what we stupidly did recently and gave cat some fresh tuna. That's pretty much now all she'll eat.

Purpleavocado · 03/03/2022 11:39

Maybe that's the issue @Brevill! DH has been sneaking him some tuna in the morning when he packs his lunch for work.

I'm sorry @purpleavocado but I laughed out loud at your reply. The damage is done. At least the mystery is solved. Also possible dcat is full from the tuna?

We are now trying to transition dcat onto some nice tuna wet foods. Seems to be slowly working.

I have two bowls of water out for mine. I change them every other day so one is "old" water and one of fresh. They both seem to prefer the old water.

Whiskers dry food isn't all that good though - you might want to try a different food that's higher in meat. 😊

I didn't realise about the Whiskers, just looking on Amazon now for something with more meat, IAMS has more meat, so he can try that next time.
His other favourite food is fish from the Fish and Chip shop (with no batter on it obviously!). He turns his nose up at cooked meat.
