And she's not even 8 years old, and it's shit and unfair and I want to rage at God or someone.
Queen Ophelia, noisy, digger up of plants, garden ruiner and demanding diva. Having loved me for nearly 7 years she dumped me for my daughter and her husband (he won her over with spare ribs :D ) and she moved in with them last year where she had her own garden, but I see her daily.
Three weeks ago my daughter noticed a little lump on her hip when she was grooming her, but it seemed to disappear when she touched it. She'd just had her jabs and all seemed well. Then a week later I was stroking her and she suddenly felt a bit skinny..and a few days later skinner again.
Finally got a vet appointment on friday .. and the vet felt a mass :( and was very concerned. Took bloods etc. Back today for the ultrasound and she has a huge extensive tumour, attached to her liver, spleen, pressing into her diagphram, her lungs... everywhere. And she'd lost even more weight.
Absolutely no hope of surgery due to where it is.
She has been sent home topped up with painkillers and tomorrow evening we will have her put to sleep at home.
She's not been any different.. she was still digging up the garden last week! Still eating, pooing, peeing, purring.
Devastated. My daughter is beside herself thinking she should have somehow spotted something, but she has honestly shown no sign til two weeks ago. Tomorrow my daughter and her dh are staying home, and just giving her all the love in the world, and I will join them for when the (lovely) vet arrives to say goodbye.
I'm never having a Maine Coon again. We lost my last boy to bone cancer, and now Ophie to this.
We will miss her and her yelling at us, and her hooking her cat food out of the bowl to make a mess on the floor, and the way she goes nose to nose with the dog, yet pretends she hates her...
7 years is too short :(

Very sorry Flowers what a beautiful lady she was.

Sorry, OP, she was a stunningly gorgeous cat. It's horrible to have to have a much-loved pet PTS - I've been in that situation several times. Your Ophelia was loved, cared-for, and one of your family. She knew that. x

@StillMedusa, I'm so sorry, especially that the communication ended up meaning that things didn't go the way you wanted it to.
But, she is beyond harm now, and clearly had a very good day - for her, respecting her limits. I'm guessing (in fact, despite the fact that I'm not a betting person, I'd lay money on it), she was also shown lots of love.
I sorry you and DD feel so sore at heart about it, but in the current world, this is a kindness that we can do for our pets (I've had to do it more than once - I know how horrible it is). That last thing is given from love and kindness.
It's something you should never feel bad about, because it takes the courage to say you don't want your loved pet to suffer any more. You did that for her. That's not a bad thing at all. Thanks

I had a thread on here a couple of weeks ago about my 10 year old boy being put down. I stayed in bed for 3 days. I cried until my eyelids were actually peeling. But I'm coping with it now, it's getting easier now I'm not expecting to see him everywhere.

So sorry for your loss 💐

So sorry. She was a beautiful girl. I lost Maia at 8 and feel a bit cheated of the years we should have had.
