Arse crystals

Anybody else experienced these on their cats?

Strange smallish grainy clear / milky crystals around the entrance to the cat's arse. Unfortunately the cat won't consent to a photo, but you get the idea.

I'm going to book the vet for tomorrow anyway, but just wondered if this was a thing. No changes of diet or any other symptoms...

Are you sure it's not something they are sitting on?

I think I remember something to do with crystals. However wasn't it a crystal you hung over the base of the tail to hide the bum hole of the cat for photos? Totally weird

Well, vet booked for tomorrow so we’ll see.

Don’t think it is something he’s picking up off the floor (with his arse) as (a) there is no obvious source for the crystals in the house and he’s and indoor cat; and (b) they were removed (don’t ask) this morning yet he seems to have accumulated some fresh ones over the course of the afternoon.

It is indeed curious.

The vet was oddly unspecific in his diagnosis. “Hmm - that’s interesting” just about summed it up. We got some probiotic supplement to add onto his food and advised to keep an eye on it (eew).
