Need Farm Cats

Hi,
We are desperately looking for a couple of semi feral/outdoor cats to live on a farm. However, no cat charities seem to have any.

Where have all the farm cats gone, and does anyone know where we could get some?

Where are you?

minipie · 14/02/2022 12:23

Celia Hammond website says they have some semi ferals - Canning Town branch. Not sure if that is anywhere near you!

I expect other rescues may well have some even if not listed on their website - have you tried calling round local rescues?

Batfinkwings · 14/02/2022 12:26

Try a smaller local no-kill rescues. These tend to have trickier to home cats like this.
If you are anywhere near Surrey, Kent, South West London then The New Moon sometimes has farm/yard cats for rehoming.

Celia Hammond's feral cat homing area is from the South coast up to lincolnshire.

thecatneuterer · 14/02/2022 12:33

Freshfields rescues cover Merseyside and North Wales and place ferals.

SparklingLime · 14/02/2022 12:39

There’s a feral and farm cats group on Facebook: www.facebook.com/groups/535322183236607/?ref=share

Celia Hammonds has an inexhaustible supply incidentally. There is certainly no shortage. Of course many rescues don't do trapping - they just take in found/abandoned/given up cats, so they won't have ferals as they don't deal with them.

Others probably do some neuter/return but don't have the facilities to hang on to any of them.

There is unfortunately no shortage of ferals; it seems to be a massive problem everywhere, particularly in the poorer parts of cities, but there is a shortage of rescues with the remit/ability/facilities to help them.

Hello,
Thank you for the replies.

We are in N Yorkshire. I think what TheCatNeuterer has said reflects our experience. We have contacted several cat rescue charities and they state that they occasionally take ferals, but they tend not to keep them for more than a day or two. I can certainly understand why.

I will try the Facebook page as well.

Thank you

I hope you find some, the farmer my dh knew asked if we fancied bringing our bengal down to his grain store.

Do you know any other farmers who have farm cats? I'm imagining a future where ferals are bred for their mousing and bunny catching ability and go for thousands "her mother killed all the vermin on the farm in a month so we'll start the bidding at £5k"

Justkeeppedaling · 15/02/2022 19:07

Try other farms? Feral cats usually produce more feral cats.
Do you have a local FB group for local farmers or similar?

pawpaws2022 · 15/02/2022 19:14

Not just pets rescue on FB

They posted a couple of days ago in a group they had some ready for rehoming
We took 2 semi feral kittens on at the stables. One moved into the house and is now a lazy fat cat Grin the other mostly prances about looking pretty or napping Hmm

Our local cats protection is always asking for help with barn or stable cats but I think you are too far away. I'm in East Midlands.

Thecatisboss · 15/02/2022 19:29

My local cat charity sometimes has ferals in

Based in London but here’s a specialist feral/farm cat rehiring charity:

ghislaine · 15/02/2022 19:40

Ha ha! Rehoming, not rehiring.

HirplesWithHaggis · 16/02/2022 19:15

I saw an ad today, and remembered this thread. Battersea are rehoming feral farm cats right now.

Happenchance · 16/02/2022 22:24

Cat-CHING Sheffield have posted on Facebook that they have a large number of feral cats who are seeking rural homes in Yorkshire, Derbyshire or Nottinghamshire: cat-ching.com/adopt.html

Happenchance · 17/02/2022 18:35

Rain Rescue have posted on Facebook to say that they have 2 pairs of semi-ferals looking for a home: rainrescue.co.uk/cat-enquiry-form/

EllieQ · 17/02/2022 18:38

York Band of Rescuers may have some feral/ farm cats, or be able to put you in touch with another rescue in the area who can help:
