Taking in a cat

Hi everyone, I'm just looking for some advice. My neighbour has moved out and they were going to just abandon their cat if we didn't take him in.
We wouldn't let that happen and we currently have a cat sleeping in our porch where it is warm and quiet away from dog and toddler as he is understandably nervous.

I'm just not really sure what to do with it? He is 7/8 months old and really horribly skinny. It always seems to be outside so we are just letting it have some peace, quiet and warmth in the porch.

He's been fed, watered and had lots of love. DP adores him. I'm not a cat person, they make me incredibly anxious but I would hate to see this cat abandoned on the streets.

Is there anything we should learn / know about keeping a cat? I'm not sure what to do with him!

He looks very contented there. How have the rest of the household taken to the new addition?

Cats choose their owners! Congratulations- you've done the right thing.

Thank you everyone! Grin He's called Ralf. Our dog is very very curious and just wants to be friends bless her. We're taking it slowly with them though as we don't want to stress little Ralf out.

Our DS is obsessed with animals so is very excited to have a new pet Smile

They get really soppy after neutering. I wanted dh done, it would calm him right down.

Awww, why do cats never turn up on my doorstep.

catsanctuary · 17/02/2022 21:21

What a lovely update!

My boy passed a few weeks ago and I'm devastated but to see this kitty have his happy ending gives me joy.

Congratulations you sound like a lovely caring owner.

You don’t need tv when you’ve got a cat. They get up to all sorts while looking beautiful!.

Calcifur · 23/02/2022 17:33

Ah OP, I love how you’ve gone from “cats make me anxious” to cat slave in a few weeks. That’s wonderful.
