We got 2 rescue kittens in July. They are 10 months old now and I just had one weighed for flea treatment. He is 5.25kg and the nurse said he is overweight. How do they know? He doesn't look fat, just big. He is part ginger and I wondered if breed counts? I couldn't weigh his sister but she looks smaller. I couldn't get her in the carrier

One of mine is overweight - he weighs about 8-9kg now he's very lazy and doesn't go out.

You'd notice if yours was overweight, I think, but always worth checking the body charts just to be sure

Definitely look at body charts. We have a similar weight "big kitten" (well, he's nearly 2) but he's v long and has v muscular hind quarters so our vets weren't concerned with his weight (5.4kg)

P.s. ginger is a colour, not a breed what you have is a very handsome domestic shorthair. It is rumoured that all ginger cats share a single brain cell though

My 5.5kg ginger ans white. We’ve been told he’s just a stocky cat and there’s nothing wrong with his weight, that’s how he’s meant to be!

My cat is massive. When we got him he weighed 10kg, he was enormously overweight. We got his weight down to 6kg but he was unwell, skinny and sad. He’s now a technically unhealthy almost 8kg but is far more himself with glossy fur and a big purr. One size doesn’t fit all. Here he is, watching the skeleton bob from his favourite beanbag.
