our cat is about 6/7 years old (can't remember without looking). no problems but the last couple of years, she will suddenly do a poo somewhere other than in her tray (overall it has happened about 4 times). just got back from work to see she has done it in my daughters room again. 3/4 times it was up there. her area is on the 2nd floor/loft, litter tray is on the ground floor. do you think it is because the cat can't be arsed to go downstairs? should i get a second tray and put it in my daughters bathroom? it rarely happens but the fact that it does is frustrating not knowing why. also, i can't for the life of me get the smell out of the carpet, there must be some 'juices' that are out of reach to clean up deep in the carpet (tmi, sorry...). any suggestions? thanks a lot

Yes, it’s quite likely to be a protest at having to go downstairs when one prefers to be upstairs.

Have you tried pet odour shampoos? Or bicarb spread liberally.

Should I get a litter tray for the upstairs bathroom too?.....she is used to having at least one of us there in the day but for varying reasons she is stuck with just me at the moment and I work twice a week. Tantrum cat!!Confused

Whichever’s easiest for her to get to, you might as well have at least one tray per floor and see if it works.
