How do they know what day it is?!

My friends cats get a sachet of wet food as a treat on Sunday afternoon. I was greeted by them both giving me the big eyes. Apparently they were waiting for their treat. How did they know it was Sunday?!!

Ha ha, that's amazing, I have no answer 😻

They probably looked at the calendar/read the newspaper/looked at the news on tv. Honestly, though, I don't know but cats are funny, clever creatures,

Toddlerteaplease · 30/01/2022 22:55

These cats are far more brainy than mine are. I even had a slow blinking conversation with one of them!

Do you visit every day because I’d be inclined to believe they try it on every afternoon because that’s what my cats do (every hour of every day!)

My Mum worked different hours on different days. Her cat would go and sit in the front window 5 minutes before she got home each day, so we thought she could both tell the time and the day!

I would love to know how cats can tell. DCat always knows when DH is going to be on a call with his relatives in the US. What is good for DCat is extra snacks so she stays out of DH's way. We can only guess DH does a few things before the call that means she knows he's going to be around late at night but without fail she knows she can get extra attention from him before the call. She also knows when DH is due home, no matter the time of day.

My Bengal would wake 5 minutes before I got home, dh said he’d wake up and go and sit at the top of the stairs.

No I don't have any routine to my visits. And their household doesn't have a fixed routine either.

We used to have a cat who would wait for my dad to get home from work. But that was a fixed routine.

I'm not sure mine do, but my friend's cat gets a prawn treat every Friday from her dinner, and every Friday she starts sitting on the kitchen table expectantly, about an hour before dinner time, waiting for her prawns.

We have never figured out how she does this.

mumoffloofs · 02/02/2022 18:39

Mine wait for me in my home office on weekdays so they can hang out and sleep. They rarely go in on weekends.

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/02/2022 18:54

Because your not in there @mumoffloofs.

If I’m at work ours just stays in the spare room until I come home. Dh doesn’t know we’ve got her if I’m out.

They go into the office before I start work, so not on the basis I'm already there.

My one now knows when it’s my husband’s lunch time (wfh due to covid). He mostly has tuna salad. Everyday for the past two years she would emerge from whatever drawer she had been snoozing in at around 1pm and wait by her bowl for her portion. On the very rare occasions he would have chicken or eggs she makes her displeasure known. Loudly. If he’s not at home she doesn’t bother getting up.
