Cat has cut on ear and won't leave it alone

My cat has a cut on his ear. He got it a couple of days ago and it seemed minor so I just thought it would heal on its own. He's now started scratching it a lot and won't leave it alone. It has fresh blood but no pus yet but I'm worried it will become infected. Normally I'd take him straight to the vets but we all have Covid! We probably won't be able to leave the house for 5 days or so. We dont have any family nearby. Does anyone know what I can do in this situation? Is there anyway I can treat the wound at home?

I'd phone the vet. You could get a facetime appointment.

Thank you, I didn't know they could do online appointments.

Ours does this a lot when he’s due a flea or a worm, never sure which one does the trick but usually calms it down for a month or two. Not that he has either as far as I’m aware but it’s the only meds that seem to work! Ear mites would be my guess for ours, wonder if there’s something in the flea or worming stuff that treats those

Thank you for your reply. He definitely has a small cut to his ear. It would heal quickly if he could only stop scratching it!

Ha they never help themselves do they! I’ve now just resigned myself to the fact he’s got a cut on his ear that he will scratch and make bleed all year round but the flea/working meds do help each time 😅 vets don’t seem worried so hopefully yours is something minor too 😃

My parents had a Siamese (horrible cat) he scratched his ear and ended up with what could only be described as a cauliflower ear. I can't remember what led up to that as I'd left home and hated the cat so had no interest in its wellbeing.
