Anyone knows what might be wrong with my cat?

He's either dragging his paw or keeping it up. He's crying a lot and not moving around much. I tried to have a look and I can't see any obvious wounds, blood or anything stuck in it. He walks on it occasionally but in a weird way and it kinda twitches when he rests.

He has an appointment with the vets at 9:45 tomorrow morning, I have covid so can't leave the house and that was the best I could sort.

I'm really hoping it's nothing, but even so his little cries are breaking my heart and I feel awful for leaving him suffer overnight.

I've attached some pics of his paw/foot and it definitely doesn't look right. Anyone know what it might be? Any chances it could be something really bad?

Does he go outside? My cat was bitten on his paw once, I couldn't see any wound until an abscess opened up. The vet also couldn't see anything as cat wouldn't let anyone near his foot, so pinpointing where the injury was was almost impossible until it was obvious.
Other consideration is could he have been hit by a car? A sign of that can be broken claws.

It’s probably an abscess from a bite. Poor boy, it’s awful when their suffering.

ldontWanna · 21/01/2022 20:06

Grumpy, growly , feeling sorry for himself pic.

He was out for a bit today ,came back in and had a nap. Only became obvious this afternoon as he's mostly hopping on 3 legs and randomly crying. He likes sitting on the radiator to warm up but couldn't or wouldn't jump up because of the foot so he just sat in front of it crying.

Don't know if it's a sting, an infected bite, a sprain or actually broken. It's quite swollen too and he seems unable to straighten his leg out so not sure if it's just the paw.

Take him to the vet

BigSigh2021 · 21/01/2022 20:10

If you're willing to pay the out of hours fee/are insured, you should take him to a vet's right away, for immediate pain relief. Likely abscess or fracture.

I can't right now as I have Covid and my partner isn't coming home until tomorrow morning so he has an appointment at 9:45(earliest they could do). I know he should be seen right now even if just for pain relief , but that was the best I could do under the circumstances.

Possibly a puncture wound from a bite? They can be really difficult to see under the fur. Poor thing. Hope he gets sorted tomorrow and it's not too serious.

Poor kitty.
Any chance you have access to a Feliway? Won't help with the pain but might make him feel calmer

He's quite settled in my bed half napping. He's twitching his leg every now and then but seems to have managed to stretch it and got himself comfortable. Less meowing hopefully means not too much pain.

I would guess bite or infected nail

LoveFall · 21/01/2022 20:32

Not a cat, but our little dog had a very sore and swollen paw with what I was sure was a cancerous tumour lump on it. He was fussing and fussing it and it was bleeding. I was so worried.

The vet said it was likely an infection caused by the groomer nicking his nail bed. He had antibiotics and pain meds for a week and it got much better and the lump disappeared.

I hope you get him to the vet soon. It is so hard when our pets are sick.

MyQuietPlace · 21/01/2022 21:45

It's likely to be an abscess from a bite. They are very painful, and they throb like hell (I've had them myself, obviously not from a cat bite). The vet will probably inject your cat with an antibiotic and a painkiller.

Theunamedcat · 21/01/2022 21:50

My cat got stung by a wasp or a bee he was very similar except he got stung on both paws he scooted around sliding them over the carpet and peddling with his back legs I called the vets they were rammed and said as long as he was eating and drinking it could wait till the next day the next day the swelling was gone

Mistressofnone · 21/01/2022 23:00

My old cat once had a thorn in her paw that was very hard to see. Wishing you both a speedy recovery!

RandomUsernameHere · 22/01/2022 18:26

How did he get on at the vet OP?

ldontWanna · 22/01/2022 18:30

He's fine now and back to being an arsehole.Grin

Massive abscess, one claw came off , puss gunk and blood everywhere. He was pretty good for the vet which was impressive. Had a dose of antibiotics and antiinflamatories at the vet with more to give at home. Paw still tender and a bit swollen but I'm a lot less worried now. Definitely needed to be seen. Vet suspects badly infected cat bite. Chilling now,not a care in the world.

I said it would be an abscess! They usually recover quickly poor things.

LoveFall · 22/01/2022 18:47

Poor baby. I am happy he is feeling better. It must be a huge relief!

Yes you did. Grin

He was already better this morning in terms of using his leg/paw so it was very likely that's what it was. I was really worried he broke his leg last night though and half convinced myself this was going to be very very bad. I'm a dumbass.
