Zooplus stock issues - alternative food needed!

FlyingFlamingo · 19/01/2022 06:58

Thanks to Brexit Angry Zooplus are out of stock of a lot of food, including the Purizon lower fat food that I usually buy and suits my cats. The fact that the flavour I get isn’t even listed anymore makes me think they won’t be restocking it either. There’s a statement on the website saying that they will be unable to import some foods
Sad

Therefore I need an alternative! I’m wary of trying anything from Europe because this is obviously going to be an ongoing issue which rules out a lot of food. It needs to be grain free and ideally lower in calorie for heading towards chonkiness cat. And not £20 a kilo either!

Any suggestions? Applaws suits them if needed but that doesn’t fit into the lower calorie category. I want something as high meat as possible.

Thanks!

Oh that's annoying! I've been recently down the rabbit hole of researching better cat foods.

Meowing Heads Fat Cat Slim is rated well but price point not good! I tried my cat on the wet food of theirs and she didn't devour it - and it stank! But dry food is rated well.

Going to try Encore dry next, for meat content, grain free and a little more purse-friendly. And continue wet food for breakfast (and the odd supper).

Have you looked on other websites like VioVet?

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 19/01/2022 17:35

Check VioVet or pets@home. They’ve been more consistent with getting in deliveries I’ve found. You could also try asking your vet if they have the ability to order in too.

FlyingFlamingo · 19/01/2022 19:59

Thanks, I looked at Meowing Heads but as you say not cheap!

Soubriquet · 19/01/2022 20:04

I get meowing heads from Sainsbury’s if it’s the dry food you mean.

It’s usually on offer every couple of weeks

FlyingFlamingo · 19/01/2022 20:06

Viovet sell one called Burgess that looks interesting - has anyone got any reviews?

OP posts:
FlyingFlamingo · 19/01/2022 20:07

Actually it’s not grain free so back to the drawing board!

Encore is worth a look, we used to get wild range from zoo plus but got so sick of delayed deliveries etc that we ended up getting the best of what we could from sainsburys and encore is high protein

Soubriquet · 19/01/2022 20:11

Check out Arden Grange. They seem to have their cat food as grain free and it’s available from most pet stores including pets at home

lljkk · 19/01/2022 20:11

Zooplus is still stocking Wild Nature which I ordered instead of Purizon (dry). Zooplus had a massive sale of Purizon dry food before Xmas which makes me think they deliberately sold off their stock of dry.

Thanks for thread, I may have to join you in this hunt soon.

FlyingFlamingo · 19/01/2022 20:35

I think I’m going to give Scrumbles a try…75% chicken, British made and they look ethical. Plus they sell it in Tescos…let’s hope the cats approve!

Arden Grange is on offer on Amazon at the moment. Mine like it and have bought it instead of Purizon. Iams is wheat free if you want something from the supermarket.

whatnumber · 19/01/2022 22:21

Zooplus had stock of my car food when I ordered but I've had an email to say delivery is delayed.
It's renal diet so may need an emergency alternative ☹️

FlyingFlamingo · 20/01/2022 06:40

I’ve had that email for my last few orders and the delay hasn’t been awful - the order still comes within a few days so you might be ok.

I order litter from there as well - Benek - I wonder if that’ll also be something to worry about!

FlyingFlamingo · 20/01/2022 06:41

Iams doesn’t suit nearly chonky cat at all, thanks though

I ordered Arden Grange last night from Amazon and it came this morning.

OwBist · 20/01/2022 15:53

Have you looked at Republic of Cats? You can get a sample quite cheaply, then decide if you want to continue on subscription. You can say what goals you want to achieve. My picky cat has loved all of them so far. She really didn't like Arden Grange dry, or frozen raw stuff.

couchparsnip · 20/01/2022 17:26

Zooplus couldn't even get my normal cat food here on time this month.

FlyingFlamingo · 20/01/2022 19:03

Republic of Cats looks far too complicated, I just want to see how much a bag of food is and what’s in it. Thanks though!

Have you tried Bitiba? www.bitiba.co.uk

They usually stock the same stuff as Zooplus, but Bitiba is cheaper and I haven't had any issues with getting my usual cat food/cat litter from Bitiba.

I also use Viovet, again no supply issues.

motherofgodhaudyerwheesht · 22/01/2022 18:16

I am so cross at this, our cats love Purizon. I wrote four times to zooplus (bitiba is same company) and Purizon directly and no-one would give me a straight answer. Just that if the product is no longer listed it is no longer being supplied. While some lines are simply showing as out of stock currently on both zooplus uk and bitiba uk I fear they will be delisted entirely. I had to look at the french zooplus site to realise there were no manufacturing issues and Purizon was freely available in all ranges there. 😡

Our cats were very unimpressed with Wild Nature.

Republic of Cats is a marketing rip off imho, suck you in, dont show prices under 'tailored plan' bollocks of an excuse and ludicrously expensive.

Unless e.g. Amazon pick up the baton and manage to circumvent the supply chain and documentation issues where zooplus have failed (and I suspect Amazon are quite good at this) then we are going to be reliant on invariably pricier UK alternatives for some while.

This may be a first world problem and nothing compared to Jack Monroe's well observed and tragic basic goods hyperinflation list going on at the moment but its a real example of uk availability problems and likely price hikes (lack of competition and high demand v supply).

Grrrrr.

motherofgodhaudyerwheesht · 22/01/2022 18:18

Sorry should have signed that off as ....

ANGRY MIAOUWS AND HISSING (possible paw swipe also).

FlyingFlamingo · 22/01/2022 19:51

@motherofgodhaudyerwheesht I agree completely with everything you have written - I too looked on the .eu site and can see everything freely available. Brexit really is the gift that keeps on giving isn’t it? Angry

It's hard not to be angry with very much everything Brexit or government related currently .....Bangry? I am pretty irritated. It's a sorry pass when you are remonstrating with yourself that you are at least a) alive and b) can put food on the table and shouldn't feel entitled to buy a brand of cat food freely available to our European friends . What a race to the bottom. But my cats got so excited when Purizon was put out for them it makes me mad for them. They didn't vote for this shit 😀

whatnumber · 25/01/2022 18:46

Tbf on zooplus they have emailed me a 10% off next purchase voucher for my delayed delivery which I have now received. They also were emailing me to warn delivery was delayed.
Great customer service.
