Long haired cat not cleaning her bum

Poor thing is really smelly as poo is stuck to her. She's getting older and isn't able to clean herself.

She's a nervy cat and would hate me trying to clean her. What should I do? And what would a vet do?

Mine had to go in to the vets for some dental treatment under sedation so we had her fur clipped a bit at the same time. It really helped.

Take her to the dog groomers. They will do a hygiene shave. It doesn't take 5 minutes. I used to get one for my elderly long haired cat.

If it's not too bad, try scent-free wet wipes. You'll need to start off slowly so she gets used to it, and do it everyday til she accepts it. If you can't face that, then the vet's the next best thing for a hygiene trim.

Ask the vet nurse to do a hygiene trim.
