New kitten and fleas

My daughter has today collected a 9 week old kitten, she was told he had treatment for fleas already but he is covered in fleas.

What should we do? She has combed through and removed as many as possible. She was planning on phoning the vets in Tuesday to book him in for everything but should she go somewhere and buy a off the shelf flea treatment or flea comb?

I wouldn’t be using an off the shelf treatment for a kitten. Fleas can kill a tiny one and if they’ve lied about that there could be other issues. I would call out of hours vets for advice.

Personally I bathed our new dkitten because she absolutely stunk. She can from a fosterer that sadly had the worst smelling home I had ever stood outside of... I didn't even go in... Dried dkitten with a towel and a low hair drier setting.. She wasn't getting cuddled before that was the unanimous vote from dc.. Lots of fleas came off.. And combed some more.

You can buy advantage from pharmacies which is a good off the shelf one. They need to be 1kg in weight to use it though. A nit comb and drown them in water while you are waiting for any treatment to work.

I had exactly the same problem when we got our kitten a few months ago. First of all, it was over the weekend when I discovered he was covered in fleas. I couldn’t take him to the vets until after the weekend, So I googled how to give kittens a flea bath. Did that. Used nit comb to comb out about 30 fleas afterwards. When I got to the vets, they couldn’t give him much because he supposedly had been treated for fleas before we collected him. So we were given some expensive flea tablets and a spray to use at home. After he finished the tablets, he was able to go on normal flea treatments. It was a bit of a nightmare, but he’s fine now. I later discovered I could have purchased the flea spray for the house online for a third of what the vets charged me.

Had the exact problem with my kitten a few weeks ago. I used Bayer Advantage flea treatment on him and they were all dead by morning. Then I washed everything he had been in contact with and set a flea bomb off in the room. I haven't seen any since and it has been about a month now.

Cheap off the shelf stuff from supermarkets won't work. If she can get to a pets at home tomorrow they should be able to sell her the stronger stuff. She will need a weight for the kitten.
