Cats seeing or sensing a presence

Do you think cats can see or feel a presence that we cant ?

I am convinced they can after Dora behaved quite oddly one night in my old home. She was curled up asleep on my lap on the sofa when she suddenly sat bolt upright and was staring over my shoulder at something. She then jumped off my lap and went and stood at the bottom of the stairs and just stood there for about a minute staring, transfixed at something. She then strolled off.

I am 100 % convinced she sensed something. Spooked me i must say.
Anyone elses cat done anything like that ?

Cats' hearing is vastly more acute than ours. They can hear sounds that are too quiet or too high-pitched for us to hear. Dora probably heard a rustle or squeak in your loft. It could have been a mouse or a bat, or it could have been a pipe clicking or a piece of insulation settling.

Can't say any of my cats have ever acted in this way, but my childhood dog did sense something once. We were walking past an old abandoned building on her walk once, with our other dog too. She immediately gave it a wide berth, ears pricked, looking very spooked - out of character for her. My parents said it used to be an abattoir! She smelt something that day for sure and knew!

Cats do that for a laugh, they know it spooks their humans

I hate it when they suddenly become alert to something I can't sense. Freaks the life out of me
