Why’s he meowing?

My cat is 3, had him since his was a kitten. The only times he’s ever meowed before is if he’s been stuck in a room and needed someone to open the door. Then yesterday as I was putting dc to bed he started meowing constantly. I assumed he was shut in a room again and followed the meow to find him sat on my bed washing himself and just meowing between licks.

Since then he’s been meowing constantly. He’s stopped when he’s asleep or eating but other than that he’s just sitting/ wandering around meowing constantly. He doesn’t seem to want anything, is eating normally, going out as usual and doesn’t seem to want anymore attention or strokes. He normally heads next door and chills out with my NDN for a couple of hours each afternoon but she kicked him out today as he was making so much noise she couldn’t hear the radio.

Has anyone else known a cat to do this? He’s driving me insane and it’s only been 24 hours.

@ReviewingTheSituation

I definitely wouldn't have phoned the vet on a Sunday for something like that! A cat that is eating/drinking/moving perfectly fine, and the only behaviour change is being more vocal surely warrants close observation (at home!) in the first instance. I'd probably go as far as closing the cat flap and keeping them where I could see them, and I'd probably have a good feel/look for obvious injury. But straight to the vet on a Sunday for meowing alone? - no way!
This is what I thought 👍

Anyway glad he's ok 👍

oh how funny...
one of mine became very noisy for 8m when he was solo cat in house
We got kittens... the old cat shut up!!

He’s still going 🤦‍♀️. I’ve realised it started when the Christmas decorations went up and he hasn’t been going into the sitting room (where the tree is). It’s the same decorations as the last two years and in the same place. The tree is slightly bigger this year though. What an absolute prick of a cat 😂

He's working up the courage to attack the big-shiny-tree-enemy!

Aw well there you have it ! Strange creatures cats ! Ours reacts by jumping in the air and panicking if he sees so much as a sock on the floor !

WillThisUsernameDo · 01/12/2021 13:16

@flapjackfairy your cat would have a heart attack in my house, most of the floor is socks

Ah that's great news, you just have a 'bah humbug' cat Grin

I'm sorry if it came across badly when I asked why you hadn't taken him to the vet. I realise now it sounded much much worse than intended.

Ah so what he's saying is "did you knowsome idiot has put a tree in the house" interspersed with "look, a tree!" And you called the vets for that Grin

I love that so much, Christmas tree angst meowing🤣🤣🤣

You need to channel your inner humbug and cancel Christmas for the sake of the cat obviously😜🤣
