Hey 👋 I have 2 tabby girls / sisters just over a year old . My youngest is autistic and can make quite shrill noises which startles them sometime but other that they laze around pretty content - not overly affectionate but happy to receive affection , one occasionally seeks it but the other one isn't bothered - this one has been a bit snappy lately , she hisses out of her nose if she's pissed off , like when she doesn't want her collar on (I get them in at night so take them off ) or if I pick her up off the table when we're getting ready for dinner.

She has started sitting at the window at night and hissing shouting at the neighbours cat that comes to taunt her , I've just been down to see what all the fuss was about and she's at it again scratching at the window hissing and shouting 😵‍💫 I've pinned some fabric right over the window but have done that before and she pulls it off.

My question is , how can I encourage her to be more loving ? If that's the right word , I'm concerned she's getting cranky and snappy , she sometimes recently has given a little warning either a swipe with no claws or a nip with no teeth if that makes sense . I'm worried 😟 I love her and so do the kids

She's got a bit of a face on in that pic actually! I've never had cats before so not sure how to deal with this sort of thing . Other than that at their yearly check they are in perfect health and vet commented on how well behaved they were for him 🙄🤣

She does look a bit on edge. Is she always fluffy like that or is her tail bristling? That face!! Does she get to go where she wants? Is there somewhere she can go where she can get a bit of me time?

Firstly, would you consider just leaving her collar off permanently if she hates it? None of my cats have collars

Want2beme · 24/11/2021 00:32

She's beautiful. Lovely photo. Do you have anything she can retreat into? One of these or similar. My cats love theirs. Does she like to play? Playtime wears off a lot of energy and could improve her bond with you.

I would leave the collar off and use a treat to get her off the table. She is telling you she doesn't like being handled.

She is beautiful ❤️

Plug in Felliway all over the house

Pixiedust1234 · 24/11/2021 01:11

she's stressed. Another cat is in her territory and she wants to fight it. Beware of proxy aggression where she can attack you instead. Its simply because she is in fight or flight mode so if you go to stroke her in this state she reacts.

Keep her in at night, try a cat scarer water thing to deter the neighbours cat from coming near the window. Can you shut a door so your cat can't get to the window? Otherwise stick cardboard over the lower half. Get feliway plug ins to calm her, vets use similar in their operation recovery areas. Is she neutered? Please take this seriously.

There are many helpful sites that you can read up on, cats protection, rspca, pdsa etc.

My extremely docile and lazy Persians would get really bad proxy aggression when there was another cat on their territory. There is a chunk missing from
magics ear that her sister took out of it when they had a fight due to another cat in the garden.

Yes she's really fluffy ! And yes lots of places to go hide and chill out . Ok will look at suggestions many thanks x

I've completely boarded up the window at bottom of the stairs where she's been getting wound up and she's super cool tonight had a nice little scratch and rub with me before bed

@Dontfuckingsaycheese her tail is so big and fluffy like a skunk , when it's time for food she trots over with it stood up on end 😍
