Help, cat struck up a tree!

We are three weeks in our new home, and cats just getting confident outside for short trips when a dog not on a lead got into our garden and one ran up a tree to escape. She's now up a huge willow tree (about 3 stories high) and I've no idea how to get her down. The branch she's on is pretty vertical - climbs me for her on the way up with claws but getting down seems to be a very different thing. How long to leave her to it? And if she is stuck who or what can get her down?? Any ideas or experience gratefully received.

Put some favourite food at the bottom and give her time. 9 times out of 10 they find their own way down (and neither rspca or firebrigade will get involved for 24h).

Neighbours cat got exactly into this predicament the other week - up an almost vertical willow trunk, higher than the house. Meowing but kept going higher, eventually came down after a couple of hours.

@BobbieT1999 thank you that's reassuring and useful info. We can from a new build so there were no big trees around before! Good idea with the food, I will go and look for some tuna!

Good luck :)

do you have any neighbours with a ladder? if so I would prop up the ladder next to the tree (as high as you can) and put some treats on or next to the ladder.

We have a huge willow, at least 4 stories high. My girl will go right to the top and then shout so we all come and look at her. When she is happy that she has had enough attention she comes down.

@PriamFarrl GrinGrinGrin
@Frazzled2207 we have a fairly long ladder, I'll give that a try.

She's down! She actually came down by herself when we weren't looking, so not sure what she did! Thank you for all your reassurance, which helped keep me calm Smile

Woop! Glad for you!

This thread made me laugh, they're such drama llamas!

Motorina · 20/11/2021 17:12

@TweenWrangler - you stopped looking. She was no longer the focus of attention so, like magic, the down function started working.

Glad she’s okay.

couchparsnip · 20/11/2021 17:23

Excellent! Hopefully she will think twice next time.

Thank you!

I think you are all right about the drama and attention. All's well that ends well.
