Hungry kittens!

Hi, we have had two kittens for two weeks now, they are 11 weeks old tomorrow and seem constantly hungry! They have two pouches of food each per day and some dry food is down most of the day (along with water of course). Every time I so much go into the kitchen they are jumping round my feet and miaowing pitifully as if they haven't eaten for months! How much should they be fed? They have been wormed and due to 'the stolen toast crust with Nutella' incident they have both been checked out by a vet!

Two pouches doesn't sound like a lot? My kitten gets 5 pouches a day with some dry biscuits as well!

Pumpkinsonparade · 14/11/2021 12:29

Those forlorn faces!! Feed them!!
My dcat eats vegetables!! Bowl of peas and he is in Dcat Heaven!

Pumpkinsonparade · 14/11/2021 12:31

I had three kittens and their mum (fosterer) they ate about 10 pouches a day plus a big bowl of dry between them per day.. They grow so fast at that age and they are so active. Are you feeding kitten food? It’s more calorific, I think. I know you are joking about vegetables, but don’t feed them those. You can’t over feed a kitten.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 14/11/2021 12:42

We've always fed kittens on demand. They can be qute demanding Grin. I'd just give them another pouch.
Lovely kittens btw.

ItsSnowJokes · 14/11/2021 12:54

Cats are obligate carnivores, please don't give them too many vegetables. Give them a good high quality, high meat content wet food. They should be eating about 200-225 calories of food a day each. Also little and often. Kittens should be fed at least 4 times a day, we split up a foil tray of Rosie's Farm or Lily's Kitchen over 2 meals for our kitten and feed on demand.

luvabellawilleatme · 14/11/2021 13:14

They are on kitten food, a pouch between them four times a day, breakfast, eleveneses, late lunch and a mid evening supper, maybe we will
Introduce a afternoon tea as well 😂

We feed little and often when we have kittens. They are growing and playing a lot so need to keep their calories up.

AwkwardPaws27 · 14/11/2021 13:18

At 11 weeks we fed 3-4 times a day. They have small stomachs so little and often is better. You can gradually reduce the frequency - I think we stepped down to 3x at 16 weeks and 2x at 6 months.

AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 14/11/2021 13:18

They are adorable.

One of my cats lived for broccoli. He was a weirdo.

AwkwardPaws27 · 14/11/2021 13:18

They are absolutely beautiful 😍

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/11/2021 13:23

I fed on demand. Mine was on 400g wet food a day plus treats off dhs plate.

lornski · 14/11/2021 13:29

Can't remember how much my 2 ate in the kitten phase but wanted to say omg they are gorgeous 🥰

Anonaymoose · 14/11/2021 13:30

Could have worms, are they being regularly wormed? Should be done every 2 weeks then monthly until 6 months of age.

Aderyn21 · 14/11/2021 13:38

My vet said that the amounts of food listed on cat food packaging as the recommended amount is about twice what cats actually need. My cat and kitten are indoor cats.
Mine each eat 10g dry food 3 times per day and half a pouch each of wet food. Obviously the kitten has kitten food and the big cat has food specifically for indoor cats. My adult cat is chunky so was being over fed before when I was following the cat food instructions. Tad she is also really lazy.
The kitten always wants our food too but I think this is just the personality of some cats because the other one won’t touch our food at all.
My sister also has a cat that gets tons of food and still will eat anything not nailed down. I think some cats are just like that.

MrsCatE · 14/11/2021 13:46

Wet food sounds ok but make sure you have very good quality dry food (Royal Canin) available all the the time. I’m more worried about their collars!

LynetteScavo · 14/11/2021 14:37

Oh they are gorgeous!

When I got my kittens they are a HUGE amount - the vet get me some prescription pouches- I think three days worth and they were gone by the next day. I was almost crying to the vets receptionist because she didn't believe they could have eaten that much. I was like a new mum who didn't know which way up to hold a baby (I'd had cats before but my elderly cats hardly ate anything) Anyway they grew and stopped eating quite so much. Some kittens do eat a vast amount it seems.

Chemenger · 14/11/2021 14:47

They go through growth spurts, just like babies, so they eat more sometimes.

icedcoffees · 14/11/2021 14:51

They need much more food than that.

We fed similar amounts of wet food to you, plus a constant supply of dry food AND they got treats (dreamies, chicken, tuna) pretty much daily as well.

TheCreamCaker · 14/11/2021 16:27

My old boy has 4 pouches a day plus dry stuff available at all times.
Perhaps give yours 3 or 4 pouches each per day.

crimsonlake · 14/11/2021 16:50

On mumsnet you will get some who say one sachet a day is overfeeding ...One of mine is greedy and could down two sachets in one sitting, I stretch it to four plus dried food daily then continue to suffer his pleas for the rest of the day. Occasionally I crack though :)

Iamanicepersonreally · 14/11/2021 16:52

They need to eat lots, they are still growing. They're hungry. Feed them!
