Cattery between house moves?

I'm majorly stressing out. We are going to be between houses for around 4 to 6 weeks. Our purchase fell through and to save our sale we have to complete in just over a week's time. Our new purchase is moving and we are aiming for pre Xmas but it's a long bloody road isn't it?

Anyway we are staying with my parents and they had originally said our cats could stay too (two brothers) however they have now said they can't as there is no way of separating them from their own cat who is elderly and easily stressed, and they're having building work done and don't want to end up responsible for my not very streetwise cats getting out. I understand this.

However it leaves me with an issue. Nobody else I know or trust can look after them.

They usually go to a cattery when we go on holiday. The longest they have been was for two weeks. They seemed fine. Cattery lady is lovely and genuinely seems to like cats. She sends us pics and videos etc. I'm just really nervous to leave them for so long?

I feel like the world's worst owner but I have no choice. Can anyone offer me any reassurance?

If it’s what’s best for the cats then do it.
Moving from one house to another will be stressful enough but 2 houses and the chaos of getting unpacked.
Cattery will be a calm environment for them.

I've done it for this reason, worked really well, no regrets

Toddlerteaplease · 12/11/2021 06:58

I would deduct this. Then you know they are safe and it's one less thing to worry about.

I used to vet for a quarantine kennel honestly cats don't notice if it's one night or six months. They eat, sleep and have a bit of a play.
My cats for the first time ever are I. A cattery with webcams and I am amazed at how chilled they are. Just their sleeping. Places move.

I had to shack up with friends once between moved and cats were in cattery for sure x weeks. Other than putting on some weight they were fine - one caught a bird within five minutes of being in the new place (roof terrace) so all as usual!

We had to do this for 4 weeks for the exact same reason, he was fine!

Thanks all that's really reassuring. Like I say they've been before and been fine, I trust the cattery and everything but it just seems like a long time and I'm worried they'll think I've abandoned them! I am aware of how pathetic this sounds Grin the house move has been hideous and nothing but issues so this just feels like another shitty decision to have to make.

We had to live in a crappy budget hotel for the 4 weeks with our cat in the cattery, I know only too well how hideous it is, but it'll be absolutely fine!

maddiemookins16mum · 13/11/2021 06:54

We did this, nearly 3 weeks they were in there. It was the best thing, even though I missed them terribly. It is the least stressful thing all round.

maddiemookins16mum · 13/11/2021 06:56

Oh and I had to drop off some medication for one of ours half way through, poked my head in and they were both just sprawled in a sun spot snoring.

RoseAndRose · 13/11/2021 06:59

Cats don't have the same sense of passage of time. If they're fine at the cattery for 2 weeks, they'll be fine for 6
