How to clean cat sick (sorry)

My poor cat has just been sick on the carpet (and the wooden floor but that's been dealt with).

He seems fine, will keep an eye on him and take to vets in the morning if he's not his usual perky self.

I googled quickly and did the first thing suggested, put down bicarb. But I don't think that was a great idea? It's now a holy mess and I've no idea what I'm doing.

Any advice?

If it's in carpet. Let it dry out. It's easier to get off.

Thank you!

I think it mat be too late.. I mopped most of it up, threw down bicarb .. scraped that up and wet with vinegar...

I just panicked and threw all the Google suggestions at it all at once!!!

I usually use two firm-ish bits of cardboard out of the recycling to scrape the worst of it up, gets most of the liquid along with any solids. Then an anti-bac wipe to clean up anything soaked in. As long as you get it quick enough this is normally fine, we've never had any marks or staining.

I use gall soap whenever my cat throws up hair balls on the carpet.

I work it into the affected area with a sponge until the stain isn’t visible anymore and then use the sponge and clear water to get the gall soap out of the carpet. It takes quite a while to get the soap out of the carpet but so far, I have gotten all stains out of the carpet. My carpets are light beige btw.

I am in Germany and just saw that Gallseife is called bile soap in English and not gall soap as mentioned in my previous post. The one I use is liquid and comes as a spray.

In the long run, Bissell SpotClean is amazing. We have two cats, one who is sick on a semi-regular basis, and I never thought we could have light cream carpets, but the Bissell gets everything out easily (and is also handy with DC1)!

@Mia184 so there is a reason why it is called Gallseife then, maybe bile-related reasons :) i never paid attention to the difference between Gallseife and Kernseife, one is very harsh (probably the former) but I have stayed away from both because of the confusion.

I have just had to buy a steam cleaner because my new cat had sever giardiasis and puked (poor Darling) on a vintage wool carpet, and Giardia are zoonotic, transferable to humans. So I have used dilute bleach on the floor and surfaces, and now steam cleaning for the heat.
When it was fresh I just wiped it up/scraped it up, bagged it separately and washed hands afterwards. This is only necessary for illnesses and not for normal hairballs or regurgitated mouse 🤢 I would say.
