Could I request a non hunting cat from a rescue?

I desperately want a pet and have done for years. The thing is I know I couldn’t cope with a cat bringing rodents in the house or anything else dead or alive. I would plan to get an adult cat from a rescue. Is it possible that they could tell which cats are less likely to be hunters having got to know them?

I think it's actually quite rare to have a cat that actually hunts live animals
Could it be a country thing? We're out in the country and everyone around here has cats and we all keep them in at night to try to save animals. Everyone in work has cats too and they all get dead animals in

We rescued an old cat who didn’t hunt, he only once caught a mouse and looked very shocked that he’d managed it.

My mum’s cat however was a prolific hunter for many years. How my mum coped I’ll never know seeing as she was petrified of mice, rats and birds. She’d often ring me up asking to come round and get rid of whatever creature Molly had caught. She wouldn’t even let me put the dead thing in her bin as she couldn’t cope with it being there.

I once had to carry a giant dead rat down to the nearest bin at the (busy) bus stop. It was in a carrier bag so I hope no one clocked what it was. 🐀

@silentpool 'giant puff of a Persian' what a brilliant description. Sums my girl up perfectly!

It might be? We aren't inner city but neither are we rural either

There are squirrels that live in the tree in our garden and next door neighbours shithole garden definitely has mice/rats in there but our cats just can't be arsed 😂

My 4 year olds have been keen hunters since the day they arrived nearly 2 years ago. One of them eats his prey - the other plays with it and gets sad when I take it off him.

I'd had my cat for a couple of years and moved with him, he had never hunted before, but he learned to hunt frogs when I moved.

My current cat likes to hunt, but when she started she had a particular 'prp' sound as she made her way into the house.

Me screaming at her and closing the door / window ASAP means she still hunts but doesn't bring me gifts.
