Help! House stinks of cat poop!

Honestly, our house reeks!
We have a boy (6 months) and a girl (4 years)
2 litter trays - full cover, odour control ones

She used to poop outside but now does it inside too

How on earth do we get rid of the smell?!

You can buy something called litter fresh to sprinkle in the litter trays. Never tried it, but might be worth a go.

Do you clean the litter tray as soon as it's been used?

Calicoqueen · 03/11/2021 20:26

I bought a cat litter neutraliser - it was kind of like a hanging block I placed over the litter trays and by miracle it helped a lot. I can't remember for the love of me what it was called though. I also changed litter to wooden pellets

AmandaHugenkiss · 03/11/2021 20:37

I find clumping cat litter helps. Make sure it’s deep enough for them to bury it properly. HugenCat also smells less since I switched him on to Orijen cat food, his poo is a bit less offensive.

feellikeanalien · 03/11/2021 20:42

The wood based litter seems to reduce the smell for our two.

dementedpixie · 03/11/2021 20:45

What litter?
Change it for clumping so pee and poo can be removed. Look at what food you are giving too

icedcoffees · 04/11/2021 22:06

What litter do you use?

I found Catsan horrendous for odours. We use Cats Best - three cats in the house and we can go 3-4 weeks without doing a full change. I just scoop poo and clumps everyday.

RaisedByPangolins · 04/11/2021 22:16

I use catSan clumping litter and the smell is fine, so much better since getting them both onto exclusively dry food too. I have two huge litter trays in the understairs cupboard with a cat flap in the door! I pop a neutradol gel air freshener in there too.

Sunshineandrainbow · 04/11/2021 22:20

Has the boy been neutered?

Darker · 04/11/2021 22:23

Lots of people advise against clumping litter as it can cause issues if cats ingest it.

I use wood pellets most of the time.

If cats are peeing and pooing in the wrong place it can be hard to resolve. Try feeding them in the place where they are soiling - they won’t soil near to food.

EachandEveryone · 04/11/2021 23:51

I also use Cats Best and its brilliant. Its also a good price on Amazon.

xxxJess123xxx · 05/11/2021 11:43

Cats best, 2 indoor cats and no smell unless it's just been done. I scoop whenever it has been used

Flowersintheattic2021 · 05/11/2021 14:19

Wooden pellets

DuckPancake · 10/11/2021 10:31

Could you consider putting them on a raw cat food diet? Zero poop smell! It's wonderfully healthy for them too.

xxxJess123xxx · 10/11/2021 22:57

Can I have more info on raw please

I feed my cats Purrform - I subscribe online for deliveries and it arrives all frozen. It's brilliant. The food itself doesn't smell at all, healthier for them, and no poop smell. Win win win 👌🏻
AwkwardPaws27 · 11/11/2021 00:00

Worlds Best multicat - scooped daily. It works well for our two.

mofro · 11/11/2021 01:46

Thanks all! Will try the raw food and wooden pellets.

And yes have been neutered.

Kids and DH do the litter tray cleaning as they wanted the cats, so they’re probably not doing it often enough or properly!
