House cat going out side

We have a beautiful little kitten, we live on a very busy main road were there are often poor cats being knocked over. I don't want her to go out because of this.
We do have a large back garden so I'm thinking of maybe putting her on a lead and taking her out side.
But I'm worried that she will get the outside world bug and want to be out all the time,
What do you do for your house cat? I feel mean keeping her in but I just don't want her to get hurt on the road x

Interesting to see answers, I have a 7 yr old cat who has always been a house cat due to where we lived when we first had him not being safe but we’ve just moved to a house with a lovely secure sized garden that I’m hoping he won’t try and escape from when it’s not a building site! I have done a harness which takes a bit of perseverance, some take to it and some don’t - mine did but only in the loosest sense. I used to take him into our less secure old garden and guard the sections he could escape from with a hosepipe 😂

My garden is completely enclosed. But my pair are Persians with very short legs so can't jump anyway.

We have the Protectapet mentioned above (or something that looks very similar) round part of our garden to keep our cat contained after he was injured very badly on the road a few years ago. It works, but it's not the most attractive thing (understatement...).

My daughter had her garden done by Katzecure katzecure.com/ which looks great and works well. Done by professional installers and they tailor their offering to your garden and existing fences, shrubs etc. Her garden is smallish and fenced, whereas ours is bigger and surrounded by hedges, so Katzecure wouldn't have worked for us, unfortunately. It is very expensive to have done, though.

Catios!

We built a catio and got them used to leads so we can take them for walks in back garden

It did take a while for them to get used to the harness.

Ideally we'd have encolsed backgarden but for layout reasons that's not been possible here.

My cats have a catio, too. They love being up high on the shelves in there, and it protects the local wildlife too when they can't get to the squirrels and birds!

I have thought about a catio I think this might be an option . So how long do you let them stay in it for as I almost feel like it's putting her in a cage?? We could build a fairly decent sized one in our garden I should imagine.

We have patio doors and a seperate back door - so have self built a catio at patio doors onto our decking. We used hinges so we can open catio to get things in and out if needed.

Then in spring summer just have patio doors open when there's someone in house which is quite often. In winter cats make it clear they want out and we often sit under blankets - ideally we'd get a catflap put in the patio doors but that's more money than we have.

But they can get in and out of the catio as they wish when someone is in house and patio doors are open.

Most of the one I've seen attach to the house and have access via a window or door - this site does go through all the options including Outdoor Cat Runs & Pens which it sounds like your thinking of.
