Cat wormer and flea treatment

We have a 6 month old kitten and a cat. Both rescues and adorable. The kitten has had diarrhoea so we took him to the vets 3 weeks ago and said try some worming treatment as he was just about due anyway. I’ve just found a dead roundworm ( I think!) so hopefully his diarrhoea will settle. He’s fine in himself.
I was just wondering if anyone uses the Pets at Home complete care monthly worming and flea plan. If not how often do you treat your cats and with what as I’m finding it a bit of a minefield! Thank you.

No you'd be better getting parasite treatments from your vet. Outdoor cats that hunt need wormed every 3 months. Indoor cats every 6 months or so. Preventative flea treatment is either monthly or 3 monthly depending on which product you use. Treatment for cats that have a worm burden are often different dosages than routine worming, also the products are weight dependant. Safer all round just getting them from your vet.

@Anonaymoose thank you! Very helpful. Stupid question but do you just contact your vet and set up a plan with them or ask for it every so many months?

@sepsisandAKI

You can just call and ask when you need them as long as your cat has been seen /weighed recently, or most vets have a health care plan where you pay monthly and it includes vaccinations and parasite prevention. These are often worthwhile, particularly if you have outdoor cats. Costs vary between vets though.

I get a worm/flea combo from the vet called Stronghold. It is applied once a month on the back of their necks. My pair are proper outdoor cats/hunters and so far haven't had fleas or worms - so presumably it's working! Only downside is it's quite expensive

Thank you both. Well get onto the vet next week.

I use stronghold plus monthly (fleas and most worms) and profender every 6 months (covers the worms stronghold doesn't)
