Maybe I should put his food on a baking tray!

Is that dry food? Can you try putting out less and a bowl with a sharper corner at the bottom.....rather than a slope. So harder to push out.

Mine takes a big chunk of wet food and puts it on the floor to eat! Disgusting.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 31/10/2021 07:44

Ours are very messy and also often remove a chunk of wet foot to eat off the floor. We put their bowls down on newspaper so the mess can be removed easily.

It may be that the bowl is too small, OP. Cats don't like the feeling of their whiskers touching the sides of a bowl.

Dilbertian · 31/10/2021 07:54

It's wet food. And he doesn't always do it. He's more likely to do it if he's stressed, so I generally leave him alone to eat. But he still makes more or less of a mess.

He takes chunks of food out of the bowl, but also eats food in the bowl.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats I love that your other cat is totally judging Sybil 😁

AlfonsoTheUnrepetant · 31/10/2021 08:11

Sybil! Your mum done did you rong.

Mum clearly did a better job with Basil teaching him to be a right judgy git! Grin

And apologies OP - I fear I have derailed your thread.

Toddlerteaplease · 31/10/2021 08:26

Mine have a boot mat under their bowls. It contains the mess really well.

Never! @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats - your posts are always delightful.

My cat does the same, even with his wet food. If I give him chicken or tuna, he drags the pieces out, onto the rug, to eat it. I've tried various bowls, including the ergonomic things - he resued to eat from that one - so I just pick up any food he gets on the floor now

AppleButter · 31/10/2021 08:56

Try a large plate.

Lynne1Cat · 31/10/2021 08:57

he refused to eat from that.

ItsTheTreasure · 31/10/2021 09:00

Mine takes a mouthful of dry food, puts it on the floor and eats what she wants off there. Always makes a mess!

Nine does this too, drags food all over the kitchen and obviously shakes it too as it's all up the kitchen cupboard in front of the bowl.

Anyone remember the Arthurs Cat Food advert where the pure white cat scooped the food with his paw and ate it like that .?
Very good for the advert but (I read somewhere) its not good as it means the bowl/whisker ratio is wrong .

Ours do have the ergonomics shaped bowls and FemaleCat likes to scoop a food lump to paw eat .. if she's being watched

QuestionableMouse · 31/10/2021 12:32

I feed mine on a plate because she throws food all over.

sweetkitty · 31/10/2021 12:57

Mine don’t give a stuff about whiskers-plate ratio they are such gluttons they push each other out the way swap bowls (even if it’s the exact food), eat out the same bowl. They gave zero manners.

maofteens · 01/11/2021 09:32

Mine do this. I had their bowls on a mat but it got so gross it's easier to feed them on the worktop (I have dogs who would eat their food if I put it in the floor) and wipe it up after. One does take chunks and eats it off the work surface too - no idea why as the bowls are fairly shallow. I just figure I'll be wiping up the bits forever.

Ha ha, yeah right! Star loves shoving her head into the bottom of the yoghurt pot. Behold the headless cat.
